RANK PLAYER ASSISTS
1 Wayne Rooney 9
2 Steven Gerrard 8
2 Luis Suárez 8
2 Mesut Özil 8
5 Rickie Lambert 7
5 David Silva 7
7 Olivier Giroud 6
7 Jordan Henderson 6
7 Jesús Navas 6
7 Aaron Ramsey 6
11 Gabriel Agbonlahor 5
11 Sergio Agüero 5
11 Chris Brunt 5
11 Eden Hazard 5
11 Pablo Hernández 5
11 Romelu Lukaku 5
11 Kevin Mirallas 5
11 Moussa Sissoko 5
11 Pablo Zabaleta 5
20 Marko Arnautovic 4

I'm quite surprised to see Lukaku and Mirallas on the list really. According to the Premier League:

Osman 5 assists
Pienaar 2 assists
Deulofeu 2 assists
Barkley 1 assist
Coleman 1 assist
Baines 0 assists

Given how attacking our fullbacks are they should have a lot more than 1 assist between them. Maybe part of the problem is that Coleman runs to goal rather than picking out colleagues and he's not known for his crossing ability? Baines hasn't really been putting balls across for Lukaku to attack either.

Barkley's stats are equally disappointing. Osman has done well from the same position, so maybe Ross needs to start picking out the runs of his colleagues and pulling the strings rather than pulling the trigger at every opportunity? He's had 50 shots and scored 4 compared to 28 shots and 2 goals for Ossie. Barkley has only played 159 more minutes than Osman.

That's seems like quite a similar record they've got to be honest.

Maybe he's sitting back because Coleman is going forward more? Maybe he's not crossing because Martinez wants it played on the floor?

So were represented twice in that list but we have no goal makers?

And then Osman has the exact same as the two on the list?

Confused here.

Fair point. I made the hypothesis before I pulled up the stats. We seem to lack the vision to play each other in, so it surprised me that Mirallas, Lukaku and Osman have all matched Hazard for assists.

Given his previous seasons output it is. But this season, Leighton has been 'meh'

We were all so convinced that Lukaku and Baines would be a lethal combination. Funny how things work out.

Baines has definitely lost half a yard this season. Almost inevitable given his performance levels the last 4 years.

Ossie isn't shy about shooting but Barkley has nearly twice as many shots in a comparable amount of time. Maybe he's being a bit too impetuous and shooting when the better option is to pass to a team mate?

Freed from the Moyes shackles.. can't blame the lad for wanting the headlines.
