Only way this gets saved if Zouma wants to be 1st choice instead of being 3rd, 4th or potentially 4th choice at Chelsea. I don't think Ampadu leaving changes the dynamics of the situation.

Luiz, Rüdiger, Christensen, Tomori ,zouma will be the 5 that get choosen from maybe,as above not sure the young kid going has much of a difference to how things go

Rüdiger is injured for start of season, Luiz is in decline.
I think it will come down to Tomori (who played all last season with Lampard) or Zouma

Yeah know hes out till oct [ish],but when fit some may put him above zouma etc,zouma may start for example but then go to been sub-who knows if he stays 100%
rumours have been if you believe them that Lampard supposedly rated Tomori over zouma just because of him playing at Derby when boss,but zouma should be starting at chelsea for me

Rudiger goes straight back in when fully fit, so he's fighting Luiz, Tomori and the other bloke for a starting position.

Think he's foolish if he decides to stay as no way will Lampard want a fragmented dressing room and thats what he'll get if he starts benching the likes of Luiz week in week out.

Yes, I'm sure they do. The point was that I don't think it will just be a back up as the poster I was replying to was saying, it will be somebody who is either in, or very much pushing for, our first XI.

And again, if Silva didn't think they'd work together, why buy him? He's been exactly as advertised. Buying a starter after paying that much for Mina and giving him by all accounts a large salary makes little sense to me. With relatively limited resources, you can't allocate resources like that to a backup CB when you have needs all over the pitch.

It definitely doesn't because he is nowhere near ready for Premier League physicality. However they still have Luiz, Rudiger, Christensen and Tomori in contention as well so the deck is still stacked.

Lampard's comments mean nothing if Zouma forces his way out. And that is how it has always been. With no ability to sign players Chelsea weren't going to start offering him to clubs or anything like that this summer. If Lampard had said "Zouma is definitely staying" or something to that effect it would be time to pack up but as is we should still make an offer if we want him back and see what happens.
