People are being a bit unfair on him.

£20m approx. is squad player money in the current market and I think Zouma is definitely worth that punt. Strong Premier League experience, never looked out of place, good pace, strong and still has time to mature into his position. He's only 24 - nowhere near his peak.

He won't cost £20mill. He only signed a new deal in 2017 taking him till 2023 at Chelsea.

And if you compare the price Nathan Ake went to Bournemouth for with less experience which was £20mill, anything less than £30mill for Zouma probably won't be looked at.

Also, Chelsea have a transfer ban which muddies whether they'll get rid of him. Also Gary Cahill is out of contract.

Chelsea will want more like double that. He's not a value signing. That's why the quoted figure for both players is 70m. I would be fuming if we spent 40m on a man who is the poorest I've seen in some time at set piece and aerial defending.

Think he’s quite a liability, goes wondering quite a bit, luckily his pace and power lets him recover. But he’s not as good as good as people make out
I don’t get where the praise is coming from, tbh. He’s a calamity.

Has our expectation fell so much that these players are now viewed as good enough?

Zouma looked poor in a Stoke team that got relegated last season, i was surprised when we were even being linked with a loan tbh, let alone a transfer now. If anthing i would offer to take him on loan for another season. What i find odd though is that reading that story it suggests we are ready to chuck a load of money at 2 fairly average performing players (Gomes i think will be better with a proper fitness regime and a pre season) yet Brands stated earlier on he was not prepared to do the same for someone like Lozano.

If we purchase them two for £70m and bring that Lille kid in for £20m, that’s £90m already and can anyone say, with confidence, that will push us on to greater things next year?

I think you are confusing our centre backs. The one you are alluding to is the white one.

You might be right on that figure, if so we need to walk away, he isnt close to a 30m player

Still a bit of inconsistency in his game but the majority of young centre backs all do, especially in this league. Personally I'd rate him around £25m whilst we're talking figures.
