Kostas Monolas

He is an excellent prospect. So many times, you hear of players and they never match the hype when they are signed.

This guy is an extremely fast CB and young. The club in question is in absolute financial melt down. They would never dream of releasing unless the ship wasn't taking in heavy water. Has the potential to be one of the best CBs in Europe. He is a little arrogant however and needs more discipline. Physically and technically he is miles ahead of people his age. He can however get bored and will need the kind of training Vellios was exposed to at Everton as training in Greece is not exactly boot camp..

Either way, he should be worth around 3 mil minimum. AEK will sell for far less as they have no choice.

Love the analogy about taking on water and Costas/Kostas! Everton meanwhile are on the rocks without an engine or a decent captain & every sign that more are running away from the scene, blaming everyone else.

Probably one for the future but a defender to sit on the bench for this season is good. Bonus is it sounds like he is quick. Know nothing about him but worth a punt at the price.

I think we should sell heitinga (55k) to save a bit of cash, i never liked him really. Also Duffy is ready and Manolas should be in the future.

I think this buy must be all about the sell on. Moyes wont trust him - look at Vellios.. There is too much politics at Everton in the selections and no long term building projects/plan.

I think this transfer is about him riding the bench for a year and you guys selling him on in the summer/winter.

can he play full back mate?

I reckon this is part of Bill's masterplan like when we took on the Chinese lads years back in the hope of cracking a country and getting big support over there. The flaw in the plan is him choosing Greece as we have more money than they do.

He is a Centre-back, so knows that role best. He sometimes relies on his pace to bail him out of poor positioning when the opposing side is on the break, so he has plenty to learn. Sad thing is, this guy is an alpha male. Pretty much did what he wanted at AEK. Will probably be hard to accept he is now a bench a player, however I am sure the wages will ease the pain.

As far as being a full back, I never saw him there, but then again I am not a massive aek fan, so I might have missed something. I think he is too clever to be a CB personally and because he has goals in him, I would reinvent him as a DM but that is just my personal opinion.

does this mean either jags or heitinga are on their way between now and august to pay some bills?

Don't think so. For all of his longing glances overseas, no-one seems too interested in Heitinga at the moment.

However, Distin is out of contract at the end of the season though. Even if he earns a 12 month extension, then the signing of a young prospect to be mentored as an eventual replacement makes sense.

This may seem like a daft question, but do our Greek friends know whether Monalos is left or right footed? This will tell me a lot as to Moyes' plans.

I believe he is right footed, but has scored some goals with his left.
These videos should refresh you memories about the type of player he is:

Everything has been agreed, fee and personal terms that is. They are waiting to see how it pans out with Rangers to see if we can afford him.

He looks to be naturally right footed going by that. Not bothered about goals given that he's a defender and all :)

To me, that would indicate he's going to be one to develop rather than an immediate starter. Distin's long term replacement will be left footed you see.

BBC reporting the nod for the move depends on the Jelly transfer - if we have funds left to pay for the under 6 months he has left on his contract.
Greek under 21 international, that said Pistone was Italy under 21 captain.
Get him in and have a look, plenty of room on the wage bill with so many having left in the past 8 months. Wont be on mega wages anyway.
