Respect LL.

I know you are not Merican by birth, but can you imagine what would happen if some fella did that at the cortege of JFK? Would the crowd/plod, turn and say, "well we disagree, but defend your right to shout it out". Or call it out as disrespectful?

Neither will be pressed with charges anyrate.
This is not about approving or disapproving of a peaceful protest at a funeral.
This is about approving or disapproving of the right to do so.

If some fella did that at a US equivalent today, the cops would definitely not intervene. The court of public opinion would call it out as disrespectful.

While I don't approve of protesting at a funeral. The fact that the government has stepped in to stop it should be very concerning.

Maybe, like LL, I've been here too long :)

Oh there would definitely be some people calling it out and police would have separated them and possibly charged if punches were thrown.

But that is a whole different situation than police arresting you on a public street for holding a sign (if that is all they did)

He shouted out, folk took offence and turned on him, plod removed him.

Breach of the (funeral) peace. If you cant respect a funeral cortege, what can you respect?

We have similar in the US - the Westboro Baptist church group - that protests at all sorts of funeral processions all over the country.

Not saying I agree with it or the messages this group has, but it is their right in the US.

Are them lunatics still going?

Because of them there were even new laws passed by Congress to limit how close you could be to a funeral to protest.

However the Supreme Court found in their favor in being able to protest.
“The case brought up the issue of whether or not the First Amendment protected public protestors at a funeral against claims of emotional distress, better known as tort liability. It involved a claim of intentional infliction of emotional distress, claimed by Albert Snyder, a man[2] whose son Matthew Snyder, a U.S. Marine, was killed during the Iraq War. The claim was made in response to the actions of the Phelps family as well as the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) who were also present at the picketing of the funeral. The Court ruled in favor of Phelps in an 8–1 decision, determining that their speech related to a public issue was completely protected, and could not be prevented as it was on public property.”

Nothing what I posted is false.

Scotland is ran by a Nationalist
party who blame all their ills on the nasty Johnny Englishman - they're no different than the Farages of the werld.

The uproar towards the Royals largely grows out of the seeds of fascist ideology that the SNP feeds off and promotes.
Oh dear.

As I say mate we’re going to have to agree to disagree, seems a very slippery slope that to me, especially as some seem to have been arrested (or threatened with arrest) merely for holding a sign.

The procession goes up the royal mile in Edinburgh as well. Can’t expect there to be any anti royal sentiment there or dissenting voices.

No offence mate but the US is a backward state these days.

Anyone carrying on like a berk at a funeral cortege deserves locking up imo.
