Transfer Rumour Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

And then its down to Jimmy and others to try and step up and match their immediate competitions performance or at least try to. Some will step up, others will not and will leave Everton. I sense we will carry very few passemgers after the next few windows as a result.

From a sporting point of view as a group and squad pushing that positive mental 'can do" attitude can only further help drive the team forward. Yes, ts a different mindset to the one that got us over the survival line last 3 seasons. However, with those better players, the increase in quality of performance, you would hope put us on ,reasonably steep curve from our lower base currently towards initially top 8 in the league

All this said Garner looked much more comfortable last night and will be an adequate squad player for now, that I would not groan about if he was in the team on merit in the future.

All of that mate, but two things are important,

1) Compitition - some players are going to get that for the first time in their Everton careers - it’s going to be interesting to see how some handle that or even improve.

2) Squad depth but more specifically, the ability to change and impact a game, every team in the PL can do it except us, Bournemouth, Brighton, WHU, Brentford etc - we need five subs that can change a game like these teams have done for us in the past - I’m more then ok with the likes of Garner, Charly and McNeill coming on to change a game, if they don’t start.

So slightly less than they paid, bit of European football experience and a point to prove. Seems about the right money. I mean its ludicrous, totally unjustifiable money, but it fits with current norms for a player like him.
For a bit of market context we are paying barely more than we got for Iwobi at the same age and with a year left on his contract.

Absolutely and the likes of KDH will help us unlock some of those teams in tighter matches before those players are brought on. By our own standards we battered the likes of Wolves, Fulham Brighton and in the standout game we lost against Bournemouth this vey month last season..That lack of competition preventing us taking off tiring legs killed us in those matches amd beyond and no doubt led to some preventable injuries in the followig games too.

That 5 strong subs being available rather than just 5 bodies on the bench is key and will likely prove rhe difference between top 10 amd an 11th to 14th underwhelming finish.

We narrowly avoided relegation in 23/24 by 14 points with an 8 point deduction.
We narrowly avoided relegation last season by 23 points.

We might need to consider what narrowly means.
At the halfway stage we've only been a few points clear of the relegation zone each time

I know it's a 38 game season and some late sprints have got us out of trouble but, still, it's not felt safe has it?

That's the point - we've been scrapping to stay up, I'm not sure we can treat the transfer market as though we are European pedigree. Prospective players certainly won't see us like that

This, absolutely. The more we can do to systematically improve the strength of our squad, the better. It’s harsh on the kid, but for me someone like Tyler Onyango is the poster child for where we’ve been over the past 5 years. I’m sure he’s a lovely lad, but the sooner we won’t need to see him and some others trawled out for pre-season games or to fill a bench, I’ll be a happy man!

The one that springs to mind immediately is Allan. Walcott I guess? I mean saying that Walcott is scarily similar to what we’re doing with this one.
How is this a bad signing are you aware he played two seasons in the EPL with Leicester before dropping to the championship, where distinguished himself in the championship and in the Europa conference

Definitely not having the European pull is a disadvantage- you could argue too new Stadia - rich srable owners etc - a good chance of getting a game automatically etc may draw players too us we may get a few more in as yet ?

I hope so, but I think we probably need a year of not being down there come Christmas before people start believing that we're truly out of the woods

We've become a bit of a joke last few years, need to change the narrative on the pitch first

Big season!
