These players have always been hot or cold depending on who you are. Le Tissier, footballing genius or Lazy passenger
Barkley gives it away a fair bit and we offered him 100k a week. This kids football IQ compared to Barkley is off the charts. He's got a left foot and a brain. That'll do for me.
He is quality.

The boy is not without talent and if he kicks on we could have a special player, but mentioning him in the same breath as Barkley and Le Tiss is utterly laughable IMO.

I was just making the point that players of that style either turn on or turn off different sets of fans.

For me Le Tissier wasted his career as a big fish in a small pond. Could have been great but was lazy. Others would say mercurial.

He stayed in his comfort zone for sure, his name rings out thats the main thing I suppose.

In terms of trophies yes but he had a 15 year career in the top flight in which he scored absolutely breathtaking goals and single handedly kept his team in the league with his exploits.

He is someone who can produce something special at times, but is no way shape or form involved enough to be given a free role or act as a playmaker, thats why a good sorted loan would do wonders for him

You might well be right. The right loan could do him the world of good. I wasn't suggesting he gets a free role, by the way. I'm not sure any player should have such a thing. And I'm not saying either that he should start every match. I just think he has the quality to be very good indeed, and I hope he isn't targetted by manager of fans for not producing something magical with every touch. His hero at Everton was Arteta, and I see him in the same mould as Silva and Mata. They don't necessarily play killer passes all the time, but they value the ball, keep things ticking over, and, when the opportunity is there, hit well-weighted passes which bring chances. His personality is going to be as important as his ability. I think he's bright enough; I hope he gets the chance to develop the self-belief which will allow him to run games.

I like him. Even if he plays our or any club down. I like him because he stayed loyal to Southampton. He loves that club like any fan who could only dream of playing for their club. I respect that. He will live on at Southampton for many a decade/century after his life on this earth is over.

There are countless players at clubs who have won trophies who are conscined to history almost immediately and forgotten about.

Dowell looks a very promising player but needs to work on trying to stay in a game as he often drifts in and out. The comparisons to Bilyaletdinov are very aparant at this stage. I hope he succeeds here.

Funny how drifting in and out of games except for the occasional moment of magic is unacceptable for a youth player, yet Kevin Mirallas continues to get regular game time doing exactly that...

Yes, I'm being facetious, but the point is still relevant! ;)
Mirallas can only be be selected for transfer window.

And openly spot-fixed.

Don't forget the spot fixing.

Mirallas will always be one of them players who 'will come good next season' - has lots of ability but rarely gets into second gear
Should have sold him when his stock was high...bench warmer for me
