Kieran Dowell

I'd like to see Dowell get some time behind the striker. Stack the wings with the usual grafters and give him a bit of leeway. Gana and Schneiderlin are more than capable of handling the tackling duties and such.

We've got lots of options in that position now.

One of the reasons I dont now favour bringing in Sigurdsson is because it'll add to the competition this kid already has to compete with.

Great scorer that he was, I dont think he needs go that Le Tissier route. He's not as aggressive or ill-disciplined as him. He's an elegant player and his abilities and temperament are less explosive.
Agreed, just wish Le Tissier had joined us

I have to say I think Dowells work off the ball is perfectly fine, though not exactly voracious. He's been a schooled well by Usworth. It's more his languid style and strange propensity to not be getting enough touches on the ball that make him seem lazy which, I think, is incorrect. He definitely needs to get involved more with play though, especially considering what he can do with the ball when he has it.
I'm a huge advocate of him getting some time, but he is DAMNED lazy at times. It's very easy to compensate for that because:

A: We have two great defensive midfielders in Gana and MoSchneider
B: We have now have strikers that will work much harder than Rom.

It's not like Barkley was the greatest tackler and we compensated for him for 3-4 years. We can easily make it work with the squad we have.

Well... I honestly think Koeman wants him to play on the left. You know that weird fetish that Koeman has playing central midfielders out of position?

Just being that type of player makes some people automatically think they offer absolutely nothing else. It's a blind spot. And just as in an actual blind spot the brain 'paints in' the part of the vision field that isn't actually there to them.

That's what some footy fans do who favour effort over skill: they 'paint in' the lack of effort.

I guess they also paint him out of the game for 89minutes as well.

Bored methinks not lazy. Doubt very seriously he'll be picking dandelions in the prem with 40-60k in the stands.

Yeah but that 1 minute results in the keeper pulling the ball out of his net. If the games were 9-8 that wouldn't really matter. Considering that 1 goal literally changes most games...

Defensively he takes a lot of plays off. It's always been a thing with Dowell- I don't really have a problem with it. He has a laid back temperament and I'd like to think that Koeman sees that.

I agree in a sense...more of a 'well we still have Dowell if we don't get Siggy' or 'not worried about losing Barkley because we have Dowell' type thing
