The whole not playing youngsters . . .
I have a hard time believing that any football manager at any level steadfastly refuses to play young players if they are good enough to be in the team. Why would they do that? It's their job on the line at the end of the day.
Exactly they won't take a chance on potential they'd rather play it safe with a known quantity. Young players like Dowell need to be given opportunities, if so they'll improve dramatically. Dowell is the only natural 10 on our books, we've lacked creativity, he should be getting some time from the bench.

Rhino is producing decent sides but that's not his job. His job is to develop individuals for the first team. Something that needs addressed.
That's always been the role of the development squad but there has been a subtle change this year. i know there are more competitions this year but we do seem to be overloaded with numbers. Not many have gone out on loan, there are lots of good players not getting an opportunity, and the best under 18 players, who would normally have been fast tracked to the higher age group, are now back with the U18s.

Either they are trying to build successful teams to instil a winning mentality in the players, or perhaps Walsh just wants to take an extended look at what we've got so he knows what he needs to bring in during January. maybe a mixture of both.

I suspect we'll see a return to normality in the second half of the season with quite a few players going out on loan.

Or not play well and ruin them for good.

Its not as easy as just chucking someone into the side.

Comes on as a sub after the 1.30 mark, (number 20). One great run and shot, also set up the penalty with a good run and pass. We need to get him in the first-team! Don't care if it's left-midfield or in a 3 in cm or behind Lukaku.

The whole not playing youngsters thing does make me laugh.

...agree, especially when the Manager doesn't appear to be fully enamoured with what's ahead of them in the first team squad.

He's done nothing but bring him in Ronny!
His form for the U23s has not been the same as last season but I don't think Davies has shone at that level either, but looked comfortable when he's played for the first team.

I'm not sure what the problem is but quite of few of these players now train regularly with the first team squad and then end up playing for the U23s.I think what I'm saying is that they've had a taste of the real thing and are perhaps finding it hard to motivate themselves for the development matches. I've heard a few rumblings, in particular regarding Dowell, about being unhappy with the lack of first team opportunities. Not sure what truth there is in them but if so it would be disappointing and, imo, reflects the youth of today generally who tend to expect things to happen quickly than we did in my day.

Personally, I can't see the harm in including the likes of Davies, Dowell, Connelly, Kenny and Walsh (not all at the same time obviously) on the bench for certain home games, like Swansea, and bring them on if we're in a position where the points have been secured.

Cheers for that, 3 or 4 nice touches from Dowell in that short clip, and have to say probably better than anything he's produced for us recently. He's undoubtedly got the talent and while he needs to kick on a bit and add extra work rate, more tackles to his game he's only 19, there's time for him to develop further .....I just hope we have patience and don't move them on too early.

Connolly and Kenny also featured in that clip. No Calvert-Lewin though, he's got a tough job trying to get a place against Armstrong, Roberts and Solanke possibly Tammy Abrahams too if played at this level. A talented squad and Kieron Dowell must be doing something right as he's still in the squad for the next matches.

Davies I'd have playing like a shot. Dowell I'm not so sure. Great footballer but his work rate falls far short of what we are requiring currently. If he's not having the best of games he's not one for upping his work rate to compensate. Not sure that would go down well with the GP crowd at the moment.
