...Graeme and John are both talented but not blessed with the same overall physical and technical package that Wayne has. There is often very little between those that come through and those that fall away but Wayne Rooney was a very unique talent.

What positions did they play in the academy?

....Graeme is a winger but plays a bit at full-back these days. He's been part of a side that won a National Sunday Cup so has continued to play at a decent level. John is more of a playmaking midfielder. He was at Macclesfield but the last I heard he was playing in the States.

Interesting. It must be tough having such a famous brother to try and live up to!

.....to be honest and without going into detail their lives are probably much better because they have a famous brother. First time I saw Graeme was when he was a schoolboy playing on astroturf, he was standout player but was slipping all over the place. All the lads had fancy astro boots on, Graeme had a pair of pumps.

....whereas Browning looks more athlete than footballer, this lad looks more footballer than athlete. Clearly he's very talented. He's tall and at that age they can look like Bambi as they are still growing into their frame. Their running power doesn't look impressive but that can change significantly over the next 18 months.

I remember stevie g la not playing much football during a period of physical development, just worth keeping that in mind when assessing youngsters.
Agreed Eggs. Dowell was the pick of them there last night. Sized everything up around him very quickly, gathered the ball nice and tidy, laid it off to feet.

He didn't see a great deal of the ball compared to some of the other lads, but I cant remember him coughing the ball up or putting a foot wrong in general.

....yep, it was a measured debut. Sometimes a youngster comes in and tries to make things happen, McAleny's performance for example. Usually it's better if they don't force the pace, do the simple things and get into the pace of a game. Dowell did that. I would want to see him develop more running pace and power but that will probably happen when he fills his frame. Looks promising.

100% agree

I agree. Aside from the 5 yard pass he hit straight out of play.

Think it was Ledson tbh. Dowell has always looked very neat and tidy and he's a smart footballer. May take a little while longer than Ledson to develop though.

Ledson was defo the most involved. I can imagine Martinez doing cartwheels seeing his favourite position on the pitch finding another realistic candidate. They all had decent games. But Garbutt looks ready to step in right now. He looked like a veteran out there amongst that lot last night.

Thought Ledson was the most assured, technically very good. Garbutt is very very impressive marauding forward and with the ball at his feet, not sure how good he is defending but he's yet to put a foot wrong.

....Garbutt is quality, imagine how many assists he will have from dead balls alone. Little word of caution defensively, his winger went past him very easily on two occasions in the first 15mins or so of he 2nd half. Saying that, he's better than a number of Premier LBs already.

I genuinely think he's a better prospect than Shaw and said so loudly and drunkenly to my Man United mate in the pub last night. He offers more now than I have seen from Shaw.

....he was actually compared to Shaw in commentary. He's clearly a lad who's confident in his own ability and looks completely at home in that company. Shame he isn't contracted up so a leas we'd get good money for him.

This is a worry. Hopefully we can tie down to one and loan him out to a lower level PL club or a Championship club. Dunno how loyal he's feeling towards us though.
