You can see that he is a very mature player for his age, and plays 1 touch passing very well. He has a picture in his head all of the time and decent balance. He plays a little like Ozil though (I made the comparison with Wiltshire the other day, but lacks his nastiness). He cuts something of an aloof figure, but does have a real appreciation of special awareness far beyond his years.

However, to play the position he is best in, he will need to be very good. He lacks pace, strength and is never going to work that hard. So we will see with him. Impressed again tonight though. I would like to see him become a bit more rugged and see if he can play a bit deeper.

Comparison does not work, this lad is actually fit sometime.

....whereas Browning looks more athlete than footballer, this lad looks more footballer than athlete. Clearly he's very talented. He's tall and at that age they can look like Bambi as they are still growing into their frame. Their running power doesn't look impressive but that can change significantly over the next 18 months.

I remember stevie g la not playing much football during a period of physical development, just worth keeping that in mind when assessing youngsters.

I'd never put any footballer in the same bracket as Cristiano Ronaldo, but in this case I'm sure he was a slip of a lad when he played in Portugal and the first year or two at United. Whereas Rooney was massive at 16.

....Rooney was unique. His family (on the mothers side) were really good footballers but ridiculously strong. As they say, it's all in the genes and I know some scouts still like to meet parents for that reason. I remember meeting Richard Dunne's folks at Bellfield and thinking they must go through some potatoes in that house.

It's a real shame that Rooney's brothers didn't hit the same heights in the game. Imagine if somehow we had all three on the books as world beaters.

...Graeme and John are both talented but not blessed with the same overall physical and technical package that Wayne has. There is often very little between those that come through and those that fall away but Wayne Rooney was a very unique talent.
