Working hard off the ball, closing doen throwing tackles in playing in a midfield 3.

He's playing well. Like you said he's working hard off the ball, something that he has been criticised for. The one bit I noticed was when the Villa CM was about to receive the ball about 30 yards from goal and he anticipated the pass and intercepted. Last year he may have just watched the guy take possession.

Im just more concerned that he struggles to stand out at any level normally.

He does have that Le Tissier luxury about him but without the pay off.

If he doesn’t cut it in a footballing side like Sheff Utd in a lower division then it just wasn’t meant to happen at Everton.

I think most people do, but there is an indication tonight that he's learning and doing the horrible side of the game. Granted this is only one game, but it's a start.
