We had the funds for elanga...he just didn't fancy us. And this is where for me thelwell is not the solution. He has an eye for a player, i am sure he is very good in working through the details, but in his main job in selling a project, a long term plan to convince those players to join us, he isn't doing very well. Yes he has worked in difficult conditions, but with the new stadium, it should be an easier sell to get those players on board.
I think the problem with Elanga was not wanting to play for Dyche

Guess work assessements are defintely the most accurate

The more matches we play under Moyes the more incredible the work Thelwell has done seems to be. Really, he has made a profit in the transfer market and club has been about as appealing as a dead carcass on the curb and yet he has signed good players with sell-on value and kept the squad competitive.

I flip flop on him...I get caught in 2 minds about whether he should stay.

Consider these:
- Garner cost less than 10m.
- McNeil cost about 15m.
- Beto cost about 20m, and we didn't have any money at the time so he made a deal we would be able to defer payments for a year.
- O'Brien cost about 15m.
- As did Ndiaye.
- Iroegbunam cost less than 10m.
- We made a profit on Onana who has also been our only "expensive" player.

It's easy to say he should have signed quick wingers. Problem is, almost every club wants to do the same. And they have actually had money to do so.

Thelwell looks better after every game. Very well done to him and his team. If Moyes was here from the start we could very well be in the mix with the top 10.

I find it hard to really judge him still. We have done some good business with him at the helm, but we’ve done not so great deals too.

In today’s age of £50-£70m players it’s sound business. We need to do this more often. Hopefully if this is all Kopite Kevs handiwork I’m already ok with it
