I really really hope TFG are paying full attention because you can't reasonably look at the team he's built, at a profit, and the way it can perform with a proper manager, and not think he deserves to continue. It would be a massive error to let him go.

Moyes for me has always been a pragmatist. With every O'Brien, Beto or Alcaraz that he sees brought in and the hidden talent they have - the more Moyes will start to trust Thelwells views plus the more Moyes gets out of the players Thelwells brings in then the more confident BNK will become bringing in guys on higher fees.

Cherry on the top is the better these two do then the more TFG will back them and you could see the goals and timescale for the ownership on progression being pushed forward a year or two.

We need a bit of stability. If him and Moyes can work together, then better to stick with what we've got. What we don't need is someone buying players the manager doesn't want
And that's the million dollar question isnt it.

Certainly Moyes is getting a tune out of players Dyche either didn't want to use (or didn't know how to use) such as O'Brien (though currently getting played out of position), Lindstrom and Beto (Beto has been more by luck with DCL injury).

It's whether Moyes sees the list Thelwell has in the summer and agrees it's the right one to help us move forward.

One thing is certain, Moyes os going to really need to work with whoever is in charge of recruitment to make sure it's a smooth process. We simply can't afford another window like Thelwell and Dyche had where it was blatantly obvious they were never on the same page over recruitment.

Hes definitely whiffed on almost every loan hes sanctioned. The good thing is he limited the damage to them being short term.
So now we all understand the reason for taking loans aside from the fact we were on our collective asres .
I think Thelwell has been outstanding within the limits we have had set ,now we have a manager who gives them all a chance we can see what Kevin has bought and the qualities the team has and that is the word - team -not bunch as we have had for all the Moshiri years .The Friedkins are no fools and they will see that .

He’s been here three years and I think it has been a little difficult to measure how good he has been through a combo of a poor first team coach (when expectations were raised) and hamstrung by financial constraints. Any behind the scenes work should in the next year or or become more visible e.g. graduates from academy to first team squad, and it remains to be seen if he can work well with Moyes, so I’d extend, but be tempted to just extend for 12 months to see how he copes with an increased budget.

I think the question of him continuing is complex. No doubt he has been given a tough hand in his tenure. I applaud him on striking a nice balance of pragmatism and development affordably. I for one did look at some windows wishing for some more youth and expansiveness but the squad in total now has a lot of appreciating assets on the plus side of the development curve. And the veterans have been crucial and more than rational placeholders.

He also leveraged the right assets for finances in Richy, Onana and Gordon. Defense is more crucial at the bottom of the table and rarely matches attackers price tag. I flirted with a Pickford sale, hindsight that would have been disastrous. Holding onto Branthwaite likely more impactful than Amadou last summer.

And one thing I give him massive props is even under the shoestring budget he has kept an eye on succession in deals. Its been a horrible oversight in many of our teams not planning for likely sell ons windows prior to exits. Chermiti factored likely Dom's departure years out, O'Brien likely Branthwaite's. Now Alcaraz with Doucoure. I think this summer is still going to be a rude awakening in just how many holes there are to fill but he's been able to keep at least a little attention on the importance of overlap in positions changing hands.

In terms of longterm I think the argument for him staying is that the squad stylistically isnt likely to change in the next two odd years at least. Moyes is empowered so I don't see the Friedkin's pushing progressive ball dominance football in the coming seasons if ever. With that in mind I think Thelwell has more of a case. He seems to understand deliberateness but also the importance of some mercurial magic in parts of a squad. That is very Moyes-esque. Its not pure grunt its blue collar but with splashes of style. I think if Moyes wasn't the hire I would have advocated to look elsewhere but with that settled I see no reason why Kevin shouldn't stay. If accidental they seem to be kindred valuing similar things.

Factor to note I did find interesting was in his media brief him stressing the difficulties still this summer. I would just say I think this coming window could be a real challenge still financially. Yes wages being cleared will help but some stalwarts or at least known commodities are walking on a free. Moyes improving our placement should help some recruitment but we are still going to be in a tight spot. I think thats also an argument for Kevin. I dont think we are out of the woods yet in regards to the restraints so moving on would make me wary

Well reasoned and a good read
