Everton have expressed an interest in 19-year-old Bohemians defender Kevin Feely, according to the League of Ireland club's manager Aaron Callaghan.

"There is definite interest there from Everton," Callaghan tells Ireland's Evening Herald newspaper "It's just a matter of what they do with it, but they are keen on Kevin."

EVERTON are stepping up their interest in highly-rated Bohemians defender Kevin Feely, writes AIDAN FITZMAURICE.

The 19-year-old has been one of the discoveries of the season in the League of Ireland, making 18 league appearances for the Gypsies and scoring his first goal of the season in Friday's 3-2 defeat by St Patrick's Athletic.

The form of Feely, who played up to minor inter-county level for Kildare and was invited to join the Lilywhites senior panel at the start of the championship season, has sparked cross-channel interest.

Charlton Athletic had Feely over on trial last week and the Addicks have told Bohemians that they want another look at the defender, but Everton may move to ward off other clubs' interest.

Toffees boss David Moyes is a former team-mate of Bohemians manager Aaron Callaghan and the pair have already spoken about Feely.

"There is definite interest there from Everton, it's just a matter of what they do with it, but they are keen on Kevin," Callaghan said today.

"They are not the only ones interested: Charlton had Kevin over for four days and while he didn't play in a match with them when he was there he impressed in training and they'd like to have a second look.

"I would hate to lose Kevin but if we were able to sell him and bring in some finance for the club it would be positive all round as he really wants to further his career," he added.

Bohs youngsters like Roberto Lopes, Luke Byrne and Michael Barker have also been tracked by British clubs looking for a bargain.

Everton paid Sligo Rovers just €60,000 for Seamus Coleman and the Donegal lad, in line to start for Ireland against Oman tomorrow, has already delivered four goals in 57 Premier League games for the Toffees.

hehe, moyes and his defenders, anyone know anything about the lad?

I simply don't care. I mean, thanks for posting the news and everything, but reading about a newly appointed tea lady would be just as relevant to the Everton first team as this lad will ever be.

Duffy can barely get in the squad, Barkley - the highest rated English up and comer since Gazza - can barely get on the bench and we have the England U16 centre-half in our youth system as well...

Then you have Junior, who will never start a game, along with a raft of "super talents" like Baxter, Forshaw, Wallace, Mustafi etc. who have failed to break the first team.

Osman, Hibbert & Rooney are the only three players I can think of who have made the grade in recent history, with Coleman & Gosling being the only "outside" youngsters brought in for a fee to impact the first team. I might be missing the odd one or two examples but not many more than that.

So, basically, I no longer care about Everton buying anyone under the age of 21. The belief that youth get a chance at Everton is so wrong it's insane.

Hate to agree but on a whole you right. He plays them now and again, but doesn't seem to have faith.

agree with you tubes, came across it so thought i'd post it, but don't really care. we buy so many youngsters for no real reason. ion the hope they may fill our bench?

Tubey, the premiership is probably the most competitive league in the world.Twenty years ago you had to be the best in England,Scotland,Ireland or Wales to play in the old first division, now you have to amongst the best in the world.Sir Alex Ferguson said this week that Utd increasing their scouting operations in Central and South America because it has been successful for them.
Do you believe that every youngster can find his way through to the first team.
The fact that youngsters such as Wallace,Forshaw etc can't make it in the first team is not a reflection on the players or the academy it shows where the standard is today.
In the last few years we have seen Rooney,Rodwell,Anichebe,Vaughan and Barkley come from the academy to play first team football.Barkley is an outstanding prospect and anybody who thinks that he should be a first team regular at eighteen years old really needs to step back and have a rethink.
I think that Garbutt is already nearly ready for premiership football and of course we have Coleman and Gueye who were picked up for a pittance as slightly less young lads.
I think that in fact Everton are seen as a club where youth is given a chance and for that reason youngsters such as Garbutt and Green who are coveted by lots of other clubs choose Everton.

If we get into the EL (and it's group stages) again then that's where they tend to be blooded. Rodwell, Duffy, Coleman all got their debuts in that.

Duffy has 3 superb CBs ahead of him, hence him not getting games.
Barkley is highly rated? By who? Martin Keown?

The belief that Everton has a superb youth system is so wrong its insane.

The last great hope is currently sitting by the phone at his mars house waiting for it to ring.
The 1 before him is currently ripping up League One.
The 1 before him is playing for the League Champions.
The 1 before him is playing for United.

Joao Silva, Magaye Guaye, Apostolos Vellios, Shkodran Mustafi, Anton Peterlin, Luke Garbutt, Mathew Kennedy, Seamus Coleman, Francisco Junior have all been bought in the last few Years, for less than 3m, none of them have had much playing time.

Why is that? Could it be that they are young players learning the game and have experienced players ahead of them?

Or is it simply that they are a bit poopoo.

Youth gets a chance at Everton, when the Youth is Wayne Rooney or Jack Rodwell.
