Well in terms of those released/sold to smaller clubs, maybe not. Although Baines and Jags were both let go... that's kind of embarrassing! I have no idea if that was before Moyes' time though.

As Boys. In Jags case he only trained with the club and was never actually with us for a long period of time. Not too sure about Baines but I do know he was at Wigan eith a mate of mine when we we youngish.

There is a phrase "buy them cheap and stack them high". In other words, you bring in very young, promising and cheap talent as much as you can, and then you see how they go. For every 1 that makes the top grade, probably 5 or more don't. C'est la vie, easy come easy go. No big financial loss, and if you find a gold nugget he stays with you and is boss (struggling for an example), he is boss and you sell him for megabucks (Rooney), or he never quite fulfils his promise but you still get a good price for him (thanks Rodwell and Citeh for funding a bit if 2012 rebuilding).

Did you see the Chelski and Citeh loan book this season? They have both loaned out a virtual XI of youngsters and up and comers. We don't have that volume of promising players, but unless they are amazing talents (Cleverly or Wilshere spring to mind), they aren't going to get many games when they are young. If you are marginal or play gash when you get a chance, you might have to wait a while more for your next chance. That's life.

Buying young kids playing frst team football in a subpar league for a pittance and then mostly either selling them (silva, peterlin), playing them as squad members but nor first choice (gueye, vellios, coleman, duffy) or playing them in a handful of games then moving them on (gosling, mustafi, ruddy, jukebox, that icelandic lid) has been our policy for about six years.

It's one I approve of. And that's regardless of whether or not Moyes give youth a chance.

You made it sound a much more rounded argument than me, but yes absolutely this. Get the youth to pay for themselves and hopefully dig out a proper one every now and again.

Take for example this Tom Cleverley chap currently playing for England, he has made a total of 13 appearances for United, whilst spending most of the last 3 Years on Loan at various Clubs.

Im fairly sure Moyes would love to Loan Barkley out, so he plays regularly, but we simply dont have the cover.

Both years before Moyes, like.

I tried to check on Damonpedia but it seems to be down.

I agree with your chicken/egg post though. Well no, the whole chicken/egg thing is stupid as anyone with a basic understanding of evolution knows... but your point is a good one.

Cleverly didn't start for Man U until he was 22.

That would be the right move at this point. Unlike last year we do have a lot of good players to play in his position, rather than a badly gash, shadow of Tim Cahill.

I just don't understand why he was frozen out last year. You fear for his confidence more than anything, but again a loan would do that good you would think.

And so far, Moyes has been correct.

ITs not as if ANYBODY has yet to leave Everton as a youngster and gone on to be anything.

Tony Hibbert and Victor Anichebe got given the chance. Like them or not they are useful meambers in a squad of a cash strapped prem team. But if they weren't given that chance they'd be playing in league 1 right now and used as "proof" that it was right not to give them a chance.

If they were Rooney or Rodwell quality they'd be sold to League Champions. If they were Hibbert or Anichebe quality theyd either be squad members or making a living in League 1.

Where you do honestly see Hibbert and Anichebe playing now if they were released without making a first team appearance?

And like i said, its not actually that we are letting players the quality of Messi go without giving them a chance.

Its that at Everton "the club that give youth a chance" very very few young players actually get a chance in the first team squad. Which is the whole selling point of them coming here apparently.

And one of the most important parts of a young players development at a Premier league club is actually being given a chance at a high level surrounded by top quality players and coaches. Not playing in league 1. There has to be something in them for them to be here in the first place, if they are league 1 quality why are they here and not in a league 1 teams academy?

Hibbert and Anichebe are proof of the benefits of "giving youth a chance".

What no, the chicken egg thing is a sound rhetorial question as long as you assume that the word egg means 'chicken egg'. The question it hinges on is whether a 'chicken egg' is an egg a chicken hatches from or an egg a chicken lays. And that's exactly the kind of question there is no answer to.

I really do wish that rumoured loan to Celtic had happened. It seemed good for everyone.

We give loads and loads of youth players debuts. What we don't give them is regulaar football.

My brain hurts so I'm just going to report you for going off topic.

Kevin Feely and stuff.

Debuts mainly due to injuries and a small squad.

But like you say, they very rarely get trusted with a run of even 5-6 games chance in the team when there is a every so slightly better more experienced option.
