Sky Sports sources understand Everton are weighing up a shock move to sign Wolves striker Kevin Doyle before the close of the transfer window.

Doyle is no longer first choice at Molineux due to the impressive form of Steven Fletcher this season and has started only one of the last six Premier League matches.

The Republic of Ireland international has also scored just twice in the League this term and has been linked with a January move away.

He was mooted as a target for Everton last summer, but Wolves boss Mick McCarthy insisted the 28-year-old was not for sale.

The Toffees were also rumoured to be interested in signing Doyle from Reading before the forward joined Wolves in a big-money deal in 2009.

Everton boss David Moyes is keen to bring in a striker before Tuesday's transfer deadline, with his side having scored 22 goals in as many league games this season.

Mixed feelings. He's a lot like Andy Johnson. Fast, works hard, 'team' front man. But doesn't score enough goals. Arguably because he will do all the running his boss asks him to do... Mick McCarthy loved him at Wolves and insisted on playing him all the time despite Steven Fletcher's likelihood of getting goals. But Flethcher doesn't work hard enough for the team. Finally McCarthy realised goals win games and he plays Fletcher.

Sounds like the kind of thng Moyes might do. We'll sign him.

Wolves wont let him go when they're fighting relegation. He's got the type of work rate that Moyes loves though. Not convinced he's a good enough finisher, tbh.

Ha Ha. Great minds mate.

Wouldn't really call it a shock move. He's right up Moyes' street.

A striker who doesn't score.

I really can't see us getting any more players in with the time left.

a fooking resevre wolves player yip fooking pee!!

christ our clubs on the up!!

*slits wrists whilst having an angry fap!!!

He's quick, holds the ball up and isn't bad in the air. Have rated him very highly previously, though lack of time + goals have seen that slide of late.

I have been concerned about his finishing over the last couple of seasons, and that's probably the reason Fletcher got the nod at Wolves. However, as with all forwards, it's all about confidence and a move might give him the boost to inspire a change in form.

His move from Wolves salary structure shouldn't make that too much of a problem, would have thought a final fee of circa £4/£5m might pose too much though.

hes class.

plus a very good player. in fact, moyes' perfect striker. good touch, holds ball up excellently, runs channels with excellent work rate and can stick it away. I'd be delighted

Well, to be serious for a mo, I'm not sure he's class. But I reckon he'd do OK for us and is about all we can dream of affording so maybe it'll happen ?
