Keeper conundrum

I don't see the reason for fuss tbh. Good keepers last for 5-10 years. If we get a good one amongst this lot that's a positive. If we don't we have the money to buy one.
What's the problem again?

Zat doesnt think our keepers are getting the required 1 to 1 training needed.

Hes off his meds I reckon personally.

He should write a letter of complaint then yano. That new fella will just wave his magic money wand and all will be well.

Hes giving me a headache, hes basically got 5 threads all saying the same thing that he constantly bumps mentioning the same young talented players in every single 1 and constantly trying to sell Mirallas and retire Barry and Jags.

Its almost March, hes gonna be mentioning the same things now until at least June, im not sure how much more I can take.

Just pop him on ignore, it's only going to get worse once we hit June and the transfer season frenzy. New owner, new money, it's like a moth to a flame.

its a minefield the goalkeeping position. look at how many united went thro trying to replace a real worldy in shmichael.. must of been 5 or 6 keepers maybe more till they got van der sar.

if an outstanding keeper becomes available up until now (new investment) weve been priced out of the market.

I would like to see us sign a real quality , premier league proven keeper. but who is out there... if we cant land a butland type keeper then I would try and nab say a begovic from Chelsea. if Newcastle go down I quite liked the look of Elliott, its hard to judge him I suppose tho in such a crap back 4.

like I say its a minefield. get it wrong and it can be utterly disasterous... as weve seen this season, our back 4 have really struggled knowing tim howard is out of form and no help whatsoever

@MoutsGoat @Kiwi

Instead of making multiple posts about me personally which will derail the thread (which @Khalekan @kithnou and others responded to and kept on topic) then why not just ignore the thread or put me on ignore?

I think this is an interesting topic and will be one of the major talking points from now until we sign a keeper.

Its clear from posters on this forum that none of the 9 young keepers are ready as understudy to robles so there surely should be a discussion topic on this. Otherwise the mods can merge or lock this thread.

Not sure why you're trying to take the joy out of my life.

United had Howard, Carroll, Taibi and Barthez at least before signing Van Der Saar (who is proof that top keepers will come to the prem even if not in the top 4).

Carlo Cudicini i think won the PFA top keeper award before then going to number 2 behind cech and then of course they signed Courtois and loaned him for experience (similar to Stoke with Butland).

i think we need to sign someone like a Pickford/Woodman/Bentley type and loan them out in the same way Butland and Courtois developed. This could even be a highly rated foreign keeper so we know he can adapt to the country and league first.

The two names you mentioned, Eliott was number two behind Krul and Begovic behind Courtois. For me they both made conscious decisions to be 2nd choice keepers and i wonder if they would be hungry or winners as Southall said when he heard about the takeover we want only winners at everton.

@Zatara we are going to have to trim them down in the Summer surely. My earlier response stands...

For me the Marshall type days are over. If Robles isn't given the number one position next season we then need to go out and find the best.
If he is to be the number one then that makes it tricky. Do we give a younger keeper the chance as backup, or go and get a backup of decent quality that is happy to be on the bench? Hard to find someone for that.

@Zatara hun see above
xx

Fair play if i took it the wrong way. Mout also posted some decent info about the number of keepers to be fair. Just think its such a key position for us now and going to be very interesting going into the summer and looking at the 9 keepers beyond that.

One interesting thing following on from Burridge praise of kasper schmeichel is that as a keeper (i believe) @ijjysmith also rated him very highly.

Fellow keepers probably see things non keepers dont see.

I don't know if Ijjy is a keeper Zatmeister. No point worrying about it really, can't see money being an issue tbh, so it's down to the manager to bring the right man in.

I think if we go out and go for a clear number 1 who we could say would definitely be first choice then thats got to be the best way to go. Who would that be though?

Clearly buying Butland would cost huge money but if we did so we make a massive statement to our top players and to the fans. He would be a clear first choice.

After him theres no other keeper in England who would join as clear first choice if we discount De Gea,Courtois and Cech. So we would need to look overseas...

France,Spain, Italy and Germany would be the main leagues i imagine wed look at but we were also linked to a belgian keeper (rated as top keeper in their league).

I'm no expert here but Handanovic hadnt signed a new contract as of January. Also Bernd Leno is 23 and along with 3 other keepers in Germany like Horn, Karius and another chap is very highly rated... cillisen at ajax is meant to be very good and utd would have replaced de gea with him.

Sergio rico is likely to threaten de gea for spain and they have some other good keepers, one has a really long name beginning with a and is supposed to be top notch.

Looking at the ideal keeper is tricky of course but i would say someone like a Rico (Spanish) would be ideal with martinez and the goalkeeping coach and also joel being spanish it may help him adapt better. He is also fantastic in spain so if it didnt work out we could easily sell him to someone... though hes only 22 so if he initially struggled we have time on our side

Then if not him perhaps a German like Leno or the name i forgot which was ter stegen.
