No its not. Where does the name - for this very forum come from?

Its a grand old team...

A song by Evertonians singing about their history.

You have nowhere to go on this. We love our history.

And there's enough of it - to always learn more. ESPECIALLY for all the newbies and those who've recently joined us.

Yeah but we don't go on about it en masse 24 hours a day, that's all I'm saying. There's a certain mindset at Everton - you're right, we're a club steeped in history. But it's more of a... I dunno, a certain "we know something that you don't" attitude Evertonians have, and we're proud amongst our selves.

The phrase "If you know your history" pretty much means "if you don't know how big we are, then you don't know anything about us. Sod off" :)

In comparison, Liverpool feel the need to shout out to the entire world what they've done at every opportunity. Their history is just something to gloat about. Ours is a personal pride. It's hard to explain, but all I know is that when I'm at the game if I ever saw thousands of Evertonians waving flags and banners saying "Kendall is as cool as The Fonz" then that would be the day football died for me.

Your point about newcomers to the world of Everton is correct though. A little knowledge always helps.

EVERTON FC.

always good to read, AFAIK we were also the first club to use nets in the goals, could be wrong tho

If I knew my history? Ah yeah mate, I'm a passive Evertonian. That Dick Dean fella was great and stuff.

You're a good bloke Matty. You know your stuff, you've got the right intentions and you make good points. But it's times like these you grate on me. Anyone who questions the club is a "Ted", anyone who raises something you've got no answer to gets a vague, tangential response.

Who made you the voice of the true Evertonian? We all love the club, we've all got our own ideas of what's right and wrong. But you have no right to imply anyone is less of an Evertonian because they don't share your optimistic/delusional approach to the facts. The present day facts, not the fact that we were the first to sell pasties on a match day or whatever useless stat you've got.

I'm proud of our past, I envy those who got to experience it but nevertheless I'm grateful to be an Evertonian. I wouldn't change it for the world. But I can see the people at the helm don't care as much as we do and that hurts, and that pisses me off. So I'm sorry Matty, another read through of our honours list doesn't cut it for me. Not right now.

If I'm making a point and its sinking in. Then a bit of grating is fine with me. Don't forget that before many of these players the club was here. And the club will be here with new ones too.

Hence buying young.

What really got on my tits with Walter Smith was he consistently bought 30 somethings.

Having seen the Smiths. The Walkers of this world.... the sense of perspective I have is - that we'll buy some good young lads , maybe one or two we need now and emerge again stronger.

My view. In a historical context.

Hence again the link to the reverend LCAB's sermons. I'll never be as eloquent. I'll get under your skin. But you know what I am saying.

I feel sorry for Walter Smith.

He had a striker sold from under him straight away, and got zero cash to spend ever.

Also, he was the only guy in the last 20 years to develop a top rate strike force at Everton with Campbell and Jeffers.

Campbell was a terrific buy and one of those over 30's you talk of. Without him we'd be in the conference probably.

I know what you're saying though mate. But still, when its them lot most never have seen their team play live. On the contrary at Everton - most supporters we know:

Every member of the squad
Every age
Every position
Every player's record

Reserve team members
Youth team members

Past players to a high degree.

Thats the difference! Sure you agree.

I agree completely with all of that. That's the difference, and that's why I think people have taken a bit of a dislike to the initial post because people believe they don't need to be reminded, so it comes across as a bit condescending.

I know for sure that wasn't your intent but that's how it came across lad. Like I just said though, for the newcomers it's an ideal reminder.

Everton first club to followed by a bunch of moaning swines.

They're not all like that. I have one sits behind me. He does my absolute tits in.

But you know what - when he's not moaning he's ****ing brilliant he is.

It's like someone... God? put him there to torture me in the game. But when we're bossing - jesus it's bloody brilliant.

I'm not going to make an apology for appearing condescending. This is Everton's history.

If people need shaking out of apathy, then them moaning at me is better than them ****ging off the INSTITUTION that is Everton Football Club.

I'm not blind. I know where are weaknesses are. But I also know our strengths too.
