Just how do we compete on field and become challengers once again?

There's the point of this thread mate.
If we don't do this, how do we compete?

If we don't do this we won't compete - ever.
This season we were 11th but within easy reach of 16th, we HAVE to do it or face the prospect of joining all the other once famous clubs in obscurity or at best become a yo-yo club.

The reason for selling Lukaku and Stones is completely different than the reason for selling Rooney, Lescott, Arteta, Rodwell, Fellaini, etc.

Whoever gets the manager job knows they can build a proper platform and they won't have to sell their best player every year to keep the banks off the club's back.

Why is everyone in a fap frenzy over having £100m to spend? Likely that'll put us on a par with Swansea, Stoke and West Brom. Transfer fees get inflated, more clubs get wealthier off them, but as none of them really want to make an actual trading profit and pay tax, it ends up filling the pockets of players, agents and executives.

If Moshiri is to do anything, then it should be focused on off-field performance. Not that long ago (before the last TV deal), our neighbours had a commercial income greater than our entire turnover. We've been awful in that department for years, but the flipside is there must be lots of growth opportunities there. A new stadium will be a pre-requisite to that.

In terms of losing players - any club is at that risk. Man U lost Ronaldo when they didn't want to. RS lost Chewy Suarez. As long as the money gained is invested wisely by the manager, you move on. You could argue that RS and Spurs spunked the money they banked from Suarex and Bale.

I think our window of opportunity just passed. Best squad in years, Sky 4 down remarkably at the same time, essentially the planets aligned...and then there was Bobby.

We can only hope that Moshiri can get in the ears of these players wanting out & provide them with a quality Manager. I'm hoping that he can get another year out of them with a new manager & then who knows eh?

I'd like to type more but there's a naughty pink Elephant playing on my lawn.....

Fixed, and honestly still being kind here to Coleman and Funes Mori
That's 2 or 3 Summer's work there, by which time if we keep selling our best players, we are back to stage 1.

Can't keep selling our best talent mate. That is just chasing our own tails over and over again.

We arent back to square 1 tho.

We bought Stones for 3m, we will sell him for over 40m. We bought Lukaku for 28m, we will sell him for 65m, how is having 105m to replace players bought for 31m back at square 1?

You appear to have replaced the best LB in the league, our captain and the finest midfielder of his generation from my team.

Couldn't care less if w bought them for 1p. Good luck attracting similar top end quality here at any price when you consistently get rid of your best talent.

When was the last time we sold 1 of our best players? Lescott? What year was that? 2009? Maybe, so 1 player in 6-7 years.

Hardly consistenly.

We kept hold of Stones last year.

And im sure he was given some assurances, same with Lukaku, if they dont want to be here, good luck to them, the 105m from their sales will help to attract some players who do want to play for a team plays in the biggest and richest league in the world.
