Found an old acoustic number.

Got it for christmas one year. Never played the guitar in my life. Just tuned it with some online tuner thingy.

My aim is to be able to play by the end of the night!

anyone know any basic songs I could learn?

Maybe try combining a few chords, jumping from D's to C's to G's etc.

Can just make up some lovely tunes on the spot with just a few

Help me out  (y)
Look up some finger patterns for chords on internet.
try E, E minor, A minor, D, C and G. Get back to us with the ones you have more or less got your head (and fingers) round, and we can point you in the right direction.
For example, 'Save Tonight' by Eagle Eye Cherry is just a repeated sequence of A minor - C - G - D all the way through.
The vast majority of classic rock songs are only 3 or 4 basic chords

I picked up a guitar for the first time when I was 19 and after 25 years I'm still [Poor language removed] but I don't half enjoy a good strum on my old acoustic

try to become the first person in the last 40 years to learn the guitar without learning "streets of london" or "smells like teen spirit", if you can manage that then have a go at learning the sax without playing "baker st."
