For those like me who never knew. We've offered Jose Baxter a 12 month contract.

No wonder the likes of Gibson get new contracts.

Pathetic by the club this.

What sort of example does it set, too?

He hasn't been able to cut it in League One, ffs!

...heard Unsworth being interviewed and saying "he's one of ours", "we look after our own but this is his last chance". It's clearly not an attempt to resurrect his Everton career, the club have given him a contract to see if he can sort himself out and attract a team from the lower divisions.

I don't know his salary except that it's not a "first team contract" but it appears an act of 'benevolence' and 'rehabilitation' in an attempt to help a troubled young man. I doubt many other clubs would do it but it's ok with me.

This is not about him being good for this level,it's about giving him a chance to start again and maybe a club in the lower league might give him a contract. Mad

Youth team football one contract takes away the opportunity for another who will be released.

It stinks and there is a reason why know one else bothered.

Caught selling weed, caught doing coke and then gets a thousand-odd pound a week contract.

Might do a line off my desk now, see how many chances my work give me.

No wonder the average Joe feels disconnected from the game.

The fume over this is getting daft...

Unsworth has stated that it's a gesture by the club to get him straight, and he's been told it's his last chance. The chances of him blocking the development of any of our youngsters is extremely low, and Unsworth himself already knows the lad enough to be able to help him. Let them just get on with it, he'll never be a first teamer anyway, he won't even be on a proper contract apparently!
