Jordi Gomez

He's been mentioned on this very forum as a cheap Moutinho-alternative. He sounds very similar to Arteta stylistically. I think I saw him score a free-kick in a derby match for Swansea this year, commentators seemed to consider him a good player. I'd love us to qualify for the CL with a team of players who all cost £5m or less :D (we'd have to sell Yakubu and Fellaini mind you).

Good find, TB. A player who gets the ball from the back four and starts attacks. Someone better alert Yobo! Encouraging words there from Claridge. Reading it, I wonder if Moyes feels Arteta might need deputising prior to full recovery?

I think someone who can back up Arteta is needed, you always need someone who can pick a pass in midfield and has playmaking qualities. Gomez seems to fit the bill in terms of style and our formation would obviously suit him.

It'd be good to have a left footer in midfield aswell, we haven't had one for ages.

If we want him we ca get him. there is no reason we should not be able to sign him. unless we sign moutinho:lol:

i watched this fella play against fulham in the fa cup and even commented at the time that 'he looks like a lower league arteta'.

he had very impressive passing + vision and pretty much dictated the game.

could be a bargain buy again.(y)

3 mill or less is like a trip to Netto.

Haven't Espanyol just been relegated? Surely he won't be going back.....
Español performed a minor miracle to stay up. If I'm not mistaken they've won their last 9 games. 0n 44 points with a game left, which would mean they were on 17 points after 28 games and looking dead and buried.

Problem is, he is yet another central midfielder. This is the area we are strongest and need a wide man and another forward.

Outside of Arteta we don't have another creative central midfielder. Someone who can pick a pass and dictate the way we play.

Osman is the closest thing we have to that and he's not the answer. At 3 million he'd be worth a gamble, left footed aswell.

BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | W | Wigan | Martinez captures playmaker Gomez

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez has made his first signing for the club by bringing in playmaker Jordi Gomez from Espanyol on a three-year contract.

Martinez, who took over as Latics boss this summer after leaving Swansea, had Gomez on a year-long loan in Wales last season from the Spanish side.

Gomez, 24, scored 14 goals for Swansea and is thought to have cost £1.7m.

I guess we get to see how good this boy is.
