2025/26 Jordan Pickford

I'm a huge fan - but he was all at sea yesterday. The positioning for that last goal was someone totally out of sorts.

It happens. He was magnificent on Monday and has, generally, been for a number of years now. But yesterday was one of his vintage Newcastle meltdown games that we thought he'd got over.

I think he was at fault for nearly every goal in some way. That happens in teams sometimes - a collective, infectious series of errors as multiple players do the wrong thing. We had numerous chances to clear that second goal, for example, but failed to do so every time, and Pickford then compounded it all by batting it under his own legs.

I suspect this was a one-off, but we need a collective as well as individual response in both games next week. Four points minimum required.

Hopefully he was being economical, getting a season’s worth of howlers out of his system in one game. The lad has been an absolute colossus for us, so I’m not gonna go too hard, but that display defied belief.

For every goal he ranked a minimum of “could have done better”, all the way up to “have the Saudis handed you a brown envelope?!” for their second.

Footy, eh??

The way he started with that Rugby Union kick in the first seconds summed our performance up - It a DM tactic we have not been using when we play well - 30 seconds later he was pulling the ball out of our net ...
I heard DM shout on more than one occasion for him to hit the ball long to Jake O'Brien ?

We stopped doing this in the last few games after 60 seconds did DM learn nothing ?
