2025/26 Jordan Pickford

I've been critical of the Friedkins on some matters, but if Pickford signs, that means they have tied down our two most important players in the space of a few months. That's certainly worthy of praise and celebration. Why? Well, while I know we can't always judge the current players, manager, and custodians against the recent past - which was our modern nadir - forever, it's been a long time since Everton had owners who kept our best players.

For me, at 53, that's significant.

What was it you’ve been critical of? For me, they’ve overseen our biggest net spend ever, should they have prioritised a striker more? For me yes, clearly as ours are useless, but is that even their job? They’ve taken over a club where the owner had clearly checked out. Git rid of a manager who wasn’t performing and replaced him with a manager who has us the 6th best team in the league since he was appointed but the biggest thing is the injection of cash coming out of the PSR issues.

Maybe asking what you were critical of isn’t the right question, maybe the question is what more could or should they of done?

Weird isn`t it ?

If he played for any of the scab six, they`d be demanding a place in the hall of fame and statues, yet all he usually gets from quite a few of the pundits is digs all the time and veiled references to Pope being a better keeper.
Now they've started to replace Pope with Henderson

….those last 4 games were in the early stages of ‘66 World Cup Finals, it doesn’t get more competitive but also teams are playing with caution. I wouldn’t detract from either achievement, I’d just celebrate them both.

Banks was much higher profile, widely accepted as Worlds no1, terrific effort from Pickford to claim the record from such a goalkeeper.
Was Banks "widely accepted as Worlds no1" ?
What about Lev "The Black Spider" Yashin?
Look up what Banks himself said about him!

The lad loves this club. Even though wasn't a boyhood fan, he shows really passion and truly gets what it means to play for Everton. I’ve no doubt we would have gone down with someone else in goal during the latter part of the Moshiri years. He’s performed outstandingly for his national team, yet still gets criticised. In part I think because he doesn’t play for one of the sky 6 who incidentally have had the likes of Onana and Sanchez in goal. Yes Pickford is no Southall (in my mind no one is comparable) but he is fully deserving of this contract and most importantly shows that the club are securing our best players on long term contracts
