There’s no English keeper anywhere near him.
I'm not English (Irish, actually, so I might be a little biased against the English for complex historical or unspecified and irrational DNA reasons). I was also a goalie in my time at Mickey Mouse level. But I will say this: You don't really need to include the word "English" in your quote above. There are very few goalkeepers ANYWHERE in his class. For a country that has a ridiculous tendency to declare every mediocre midfielder or forward you have as "world-class", it's bizarre that this working class, authentic no-airs-and-graces lad with his feet on the ground isn't eulogised in the way "Shilts" and others were.
"Great save by Dasaev. And that's why he's rated as the world's number two" - Tony Gubba on Rinat Dasaev versus Enzo Scifo and Belgium, 1986.
That was the level of ludicrousness at play. And Gubba wasn't referring to Southall as number one...
Jordan Pickford. The only world-class Everton player of the 21st century (that wasn't a teenage Wayne Rooney or a semi-retired James Rodriguez).
