As mentioned in another reply, Banks did not only play against Germany, Italy, Brazil and the like, it is a common misconception. He also played against "weaker" teams

I get that mate, but Banks was named FWA Footballer of the Year in 1972 and was named FIFAGoalkeeper of the Year on six occasions. The IFFHS named Banks the second-best goalkeeper of the 20th century, after Lev Yashin.

Fifa goalkeeper of the tear on six occasions, that is exceptional mate. He played whatever the opposition was, as does any keeper, but in my personal opinion, the opposition in the 60’s and 70’s (both domestically and internationally) was far superior to the opposition nowadays.

By the way, my thinking Banks was better is in no way dissing Pickford, who I believe is one of the most underrated keepers of all time (for reasons I don’t understand).

Saw Banks several times for Leicester and Stoke v the Blues. Fifty years have passed and the memory gets hazy but even so, I still recall him being the boss in the area and exuding quiet confidence. Did the basic stuff without fuss and had an agility, posiyioning and reflexes which were breath taking.

Yashin? Mazurkiewicz? Who can say. I doubt very, very much if anyone on earth apart from their clubs' suporters had any real idea of ow good they were. TV football wasn't really a thing in their heyday so there was a reliance on newsfilm clips of a minute or two at very irregular intervals to get any 'eyes on' time.

I'm happy to watch JP's performances without the temptation to invoke impausible comparisons,
