As a former goalkeeper and someone who pays close attention to how they go about their business, I would have to disagree.
Jordan has one advantage in how he distributes the ball - although Southall was one of the better keepers in that era, so the difference is not as great as it might have been to some of his contemporaries. For everything else Southall was better and in terms of commanding his box and dominating the air, Nev was miles ahead. Some of the problems we've had as a club is because Pickford cannot do that side of the job and that invites pressure, which can lead to chances/goals.
I wouldn't class the 1995 team great, workmanlike would be a better description. That's what Pickford has to show, drag an ordinary team to the later stages of a cup and more by being the difference. Southall did that at near 37 years old, and that is 40 something equivalent in the modern day game.
We are lucky to have Pickford don't get me wrong, comparisons against Southall are just silly at this stage.
