….I really don’t get: “the squad needs players who can accept being part of a squad”. It’s basically saying we need players who are not very good because they’re content being on big bucks and not playing.
JJK is a very ordinary footballer. We need better than him as back-up. He’s a poor defender & offers nothing in the attacking third. Yet you say we should give him a new deal because he’s happy not playing. True right he’s happy being a millionaire and not playing.
if that’s the model for running a competitive team we truly are doomed.
We need a squad of at least twenty outfield players, probably more. At least two for every outfield position.
We already have a number of players in the squad that are very expensive each week but contribute very little to the team.
It is part of the cost saving plan to get rid of as many of these players as possible bringing down the wages to turnover ratio.
We know at the same time the squad has to be strengthened and we also know that transfer funds will be limited , unless we sell two or three of our more saleable assets.
So, we have to cull the squad and at the same time build it back probably on a shoestring budget.
Lampard obviously like JJ Kenny, he has used him quite a lot since he arrived. The player will not be on huge wages and can cover two positions.
I can see why the manager would choose to keep a cheaper option like this and concentrate his resources for the areas where we are weakest... midfield being the most obvious.
We are simply not going to be able to sign a player that can act as cover for two positions and be prepared to do so at anything near the cost of keeping JJ Kenny.
Of course we need better, where will be get them without blowing holes in a limited budget ?
