Thats the point I stopped reading.

Woodgate is a really good defender when fit. He was a one man defence for Borough in the 0-0 a couple of seasons ago.

So, you stopped reading there - so presumably you agreed with me that Lescott is at best on a par with the 11 names previous to that (and that's before we look at defenders playing outside of England).

I am in about 60% agreement with this.

One of the best defenders in the League isn't worth £30. Im sorry, but he just isn't.

Oh, and good thinking with the Wiki stats...couldn't be arsed to look my self properly Lordy.

And as someone said, getting rid of his 5 goals a season, for a quality player in for Osman, would give us more than that.

Superb piece of business that, less than a pair of boss adidas trabs.

Which Is what I've basically said a few times now.

Lescott is without a doubt in the top 5 CBs in the League.

Skirtel, Hangeland, Upson, Cahill, Alex, King and Woodgate are all debatable in my opinion.

Lescott best attribute is he's a very good defender and his performances speak for themselves. One mistake wouldn't change my opinion of him and I doubt it would for alot of Blues.

He is without doubt one of the best defenders in the League.

It's something he does a lot though - switch off and have to make up ground. Same thing for Ashle Young's winner at Goodison - if he's alert he forces Young wide, but he was slow to react and a class player punished him.

My point was that people's opinions might be different if it resulted in goals in a huge games - you don't always remember the mistake when Jags makes the saving tackle.

And you can debate whether the above named defenders a SLIGHTLY worse (if they are) but the point is that Lescott isn't stand out. Therefore, he can't be hugely better than other (cheaper) potential signings from abroad.

Yes, he is better than these signings, but (in my opinion but clearly in the opinion of many others) the gap between Lescott and Yobo is far smaller than the gap between Moutinho and Osman.

Lescott is a rock, he plays CB, he plays LB and he scores goals, how much more influential would you like him to be mate???

Do you know, for me, Lescott is our best player, our prize assett. For the reasons I listed above. The only other player I would argue so hard about would be Arteta, but thats because ive got such a massive hardon for him.

For me, with the right money, we could replace nearly every player in our squad. But not Lescott.

This man speaks nothing but sense. Seriously you cant underestemate Lescotts quality and frankly you cant buy it, not any budget we have access to.

Sends out the compleatley wrong signal to the rest of the squad to "We're trying to build something here" "Unless of course someone offers 20 mill for you", "Please sign another contract Mikel"! PPFFTTT!

He doesn't do it alot. Both Jagielka and Lescott misjudge the pass to Torres and that can happen to any defender, it doesn't matter what level of football your are playing at.

I didn’t really go into detail about how good I think he is, I think he is better than Hangeland, Skirtel, Cahill, Upson, Alex, Woodgate and King. Therefore, basically, I think he’s one of the best in the League, only three or four better him in my opinion.

As I said, I’d certainly look at any 20 million bids for Lescott because it’s a lot of money for a centre back and it’s an interesting deal. I still think he’s one of the best centre backs in the League though, without a doubt.

The problem is Neiler, how are we supposed to buy players like Moutinho, Mbia, Trochowski etc with our budget? We spent 15 million on the last day of the deadline and that was after selling both Andy Johnson and James McFadden.

We have to be realistic here, Moyes will be lucky to get 12 million and that’ll probably be with someone like Victor Anichebe leaving for 2-3 million. Money is tight at the moment (credit crunch) and we all know Bill struggles to find money every year.

I wouldn’t like to see Lescott leave, I think he’s ‘quality’ and I’m sure the majority of Evertonian’s do I don’t see what’s wrong with looking at a deal like the one mentioned, we are talking 20 million for a centre back. It’s a lot of money and I have no doubts the club would look at it.

If anything the club is sending out the wrong messages to the players, the fact that Moyes still only has a small budget to work with despite his excellent finishes over the past few years. As you’ve said many times before, he’s working miracles but he can only do so much.

20 million at least gives Moyes something to work with. I don’t think anyone’s being stupid or mad for considering a deal like that, for a defender.
