Johnny Heitinga - You blew it son.

3 games and he's blown it?

Refer back to my original post then.

He hasn't had a run of good form because he's never played in his natural position for a decent length of time. Remember when people were calling Distin badly gash when he first came here ? Heitinga's had two and a half games in a row in his proper position, and people are saying his Everton career his over.

Total kneejerk crap in this thread.

Its not kneejerk at all, ive been willing to give Heitinga a chance in his 'proper position', partly because he is NOT a midfielder in the slightest and i agree he has played well for us in the past at centre back, but it was a joke how much better we looked when Distin replaced him there on Saturday

Heitinga 'the world cup finalist' as he loves to tell us, wasnt even attempting to head the ball, he was actually turning his back on it while Ba and Best won every single header, Distin on the other hand stood his ground and won the ball

You cannot afford to take chances at centre back and thats why 3 games is enough, hes made mistakes in all 3 as summerskin said and at CB individual mistakes cost you big

A good back-up when hes on form, yes. The best player in any one position in the everton team? No

I am not saying Heitinga is a bad player. I don't think that, however I don't think he is worth what he's earning. Every team has players that are not worth what they earn, but our financial situation in mind....we just can't have big earners riding the pine.

As others have mentioned here the difference in the defense when Distin came on was immediate. So should we be pairing Heitinga with Distin at this point? I rather not with Johnny's form and us needing points badly(I know Jags has not been great either). So we are skint, and have an expensive player not able to crack the starting lineup at this point........what's the best course of action?

You don't get in the Netherlands side that get to a World Cup final by being useless! When Jagielka scores own goals/concedes a pen are there threads about him not being good enough started? Maybe we Jagielka/Distin aren't as good as a lot of our fans think and Heitinga is on a different wavelength?

Jags' own goals are always deflected in because he launches himself from about 20 yards away to block shots. Heitinga's was silly. It's not just the own goal or the pen though, he couldn't cope at all with Lukaku's pace or Leon Best's strength. Quite simply not fast, strong or good enough.

And yet a year ago he had Drogba in his pocket when he'd had a run of games together with Jags? I remember calling them out basically on their height issue but they proved me wrong there mostly.

Why would you launch yourself at someone from several yards away though, shouldn't you be tighter from the off?

I don't see the sense in writing off any of our three centrebacks really. They've all proven that they are more than capable of dealing with any and every striker the PL has at times, now though, we're at a crappy run of form with midfielders struggling to close people down, the marking in our 6 yards box far from ideal and Jags' head turned by the Arse, Johnny's struggling with the tempo since he hasn't played first team football since forever (seems like). Our only standout defender at the moment to me is Distin, and he still produces the occassional brainfart, but he outshines the other two easily because of their current run of form.
The three of them are still all class when at the top of their game. We need to get them there again.

Midfielders generally have all the long shots that require blocking, so no not really...

Heitinga was alright last season with Jagielka, but still not good enough to be considered as better than Jags or Distin

I think thats quite harsh on Heitinga.

He was left in no mans land because Jagielka lost the man he was marking. Heitinga had to try and take care of 2 men, got in a decent enough position and then the cross took a deflection off Baines which had wrong footed Heitinga who then stretched to get a foot to it.

He was always stretching for it and any defender worth their salt will try to make any form of contact with a ball coming across the six yard box. He was just unlucky.

My issue with Johnny has nothing to do with his own goal, stuff like that happens to every player. My issue is i have never seen this amazing player that hes keeps telling people he is? i keep hearing him say how brilliant he is but i just see squad player.
As for him being in a world cup final? He didnt get there by himself did he? And if i'm correct he didnt cover himself in glory throughout the tournament.
Players can be good in europe but useless in England, look at Seva Veron, undoubtably amazing but useless in England
