He will be fine, the lad has had a lot to cope with over the past year. He has just lost his way for a bit. Needs to get this season out of the way and then have a good Euros. Somebody say you can't teach the basics, that is wrong, you can teach the basics. What you can't teach is class, Stones has class and that will show again.

Form is temporary, class is permanent. He will come good again and many will eat their words. Ironically seeing mori get a run of games will help stones when he comes back into the side, as mori is our best defender at present and playing like the argentine international that he is, will aid stones when comes back.

Go back to this thread around December. He was the best thing since sliced bread.

He had one or two shaky games (or, more accurately, shaky moments) and then got injured/rested. He came in tonight when we were sitting deep and didn't really do anything wrong. Gestede jumped higher than both him and Jags.

Mori is playing excellently at the moment so, while that stays the case, him and Jags will be the starting pair. There's certain games, however, where we're gonna face a team at home who will come for a draw, and Stones in that situation is ideal.

He's had plenty more - loads of people, me included, have been concerned with his actual defending. Yes, impressive technique and footwork, but his positioning in a lot of cases (especially for crosses) is and has been horrible for a while.

He has had a few bad months and an injury.
Young players go backwards its how they learn.
All of a sudden it will all come together and he will get there.

I'm not bashing anyone, is no one allowed to criticise a player here? Don't care about his age, I can't twist my soul and say he played well just because he's a young player, when he hasn't (obviously not talking about today).

I get what you're saying and no we'd never spend that on anyone. But Chelsea have already had a £38M bid laughed out and they will go higher, and if not them, some idiot will pay it. (City/Utd/Barca)

Exactly though, "some idiot". I doubt they'd come in with £40m this summer, unless he absolutely bosses the Euro's, seeing as he's had a pretty abysmal season. I'd love it if he comes back next year and is amazing at both "tekkerz" and defending, but is there anything to suggest he will? We'll have to wait and see.

Obviously happy with him getting back to fitness and all, but I don't want to see the solid pairing of Jags and Funes Mori taken apart just because Stones is fit. If anything, Stones and Ramiro won't work well until Stones improves his positioning and general defending, and Jags and Stones doesn't seem to be a working pair either.

So we have to facilitate his learning for another two to three seasons? Ok. I think that argument is simply useless just because it normally takes that long shouldn't apply to someone who is supposedly an outlier in regards to talent at a certain age.

Is he the finished package? No. But he's already very good and will improve.

Does developing a player necessitate him starting? Of course he's not the finished article. He's good at some things but I think you should have checked before jumping in the argument. I already said he was quality but I'd rather he becomes Barry's heir.
