Rio Ferdinand was sold for £30m as a 23 year old 13 years ago.

THIRTEEN YEARS

John Stones is absolutely in Ferdinand's league. If Ferdinand could fetch £30m over a decade ago, with the huge increase in TV money over the last decade, we should be quoting an eye-watering fee. Stones has 4 years left on his deal, no release clause and (as far as we know at the moment) isn't agitating for a move.

I've only seen two world class talents at Goodison in my living memory. Rooney and Stones. We let Rooney go for less than we should have demanded because of his contract situation and the fact he forced a move. At the moment, we don't have those issues with Stones so we should simply demand a crazy amount of money for him.

This. Not in our interest to sell.

I say we feck them off unless we get stupid money. We can still sell him next year for money. If anything his stock will be higher then.

The sale of John Stones is unacceptable.

He will eventually be sold to a CL side for £75M if that's what he wants. No need for Everton to rush and sell him for less than that, and still better business to keep him in the squad as long as he wants to stay. Some say winning is the best PR/Branding for a club, but having an icon at the club also works. The future is never set, but Stones is definitely icon material.

In all seriousness if the lad stays with us for a few seasons and as a club we don't progress then he would leave with my blessing and (as you say) we would pocket a hefty transfer fee.

Having said that, I agree with @RFUS (un-abbreviate your name you biff) that every player has their price but considering his potential, the massive surge in every clubs finances, our current defensive options and the fact that as fans surely we want to watch the best players kick a ball in royal blue then that price should be ridiculously high.

£35 million - £40 million sounds good on paper and I imagine that the board think so too - personally, I'd rather they tell Chelsea to koff and continue to build the team around the core of potential that we have in the current side.

It's essentially the board's version of cliff, bum, marry, except that the board don't understand that frequent one-night stands are counterproductive to long-term relationships, and the board's lack of relationship is why they feel so very, very lonely.

I know, I know.

HE'S PRICELESS
WE'RE NOT GOING TO SELL HIM
WE'VE GOT A JOHN STONES TRANSFER THREAD
and so on...

But there's a lot of talk at the minute concerning his value and so, I thought it would be interesting quantify opinion with a poll.

Transfers are part of the game, and every footballer has a price. What price would you consider 'acceptable' to sell John Stones?

'Sake
You missed out 40-45 million mate.
I know, it was a deliberate mistake, I'll add it.

Shaw went for £33m and Stones has done more than him IMO and is tied into a long contract. Therefore I'd hope for £35m plus.

Not sure he is actually worth that (yet) but he is worth that to us given we only have 1 other senior centre back and we don't need the money (or at least we bloody shouldn't).

Precisely. Quality players not only attract fans, also sponsors and top players want to play with them.

Separately, how much would Chelsea consider selling a 20 year old John Terry for? They wouldnt sell...that should be our answer...maybe £60mil+ but even then we would need to spend £40mil on two top notch defenders (Romagnoli and one other) and then £20mil on a playmaker....

Who knows if they would work out for us + we have Galloway coming through to partner stones....

Energy is always KE + PE. If you ignore either you get a false value.

John Stones transfer value is current value + future value. If you ignore either you get a false value.

Chelsea don't want him to cover for John Terry now; they want him as a candidate to replace his Captaincy in the future. That's how they value John Stones, and that's how Everton should see it also.
