John Stones transfer saga

Some people can't take the blue tinted glasses off.

It's similar to the Liverpool fans who go on about 5 times, we've won the league 18 times etc etc.

Preston North End have probably won more trophies than quite a few teams in the premiership but I wouldn't say they are bigger due to that fact.

Years ago, we were the club breaking transfer record's and using our financial strength, swings and roundabouts.

I actually don't mind people having the blue tints on. It's only because they love Everton. We all do it a bit I reckon. Nothing wrong with that really. Just sometimes a bit of realism helps.

Not at all, you don't even know me you tedious gimp.

A Chelsea fan comes on here and tells us we are a small club.

I retort with a factually correct statement and you attack me.

Bore off you over over protective meff, they were nothing out of the ordinary until Abramovich turned up. He can be as happy as he wants and you can crack one off in the joy of it all with him.....but I stand by what I said.

For what it's worth regarding the 'big club' tag. I had the misfortune to be sat near them (Chelsea fans) at the 2009 cup final and I've never seen such a lack of passion from a set of supporters. I kid you not when drogba equalised some just stood up and applauded, like they would applaud at the end of a west end show.
As for city got to say I've lived round these parts for 15 years and they do have passionate fans. Remember they averaged over 30k in their league one days. City and everton share the misfortune of having the 2 biggest media darlings (RS and united) in the same city. I'm just thankful the shiek didn't take over either of those clubs, just the thought of it sends shivers down your spine. Nevertheless the city contingent have got more cocky and some have conviently forgotten that the likes of goater and dickov used to play for them, since the money poured in but I guess you can't blame them, I just wish it had been us.

They've got a much bigger global fan base and probably quite a bit bigger UK fan base, even if a lot of them are plastic.

All these plastic fans will just move on if the money and marketing doesn't continue to be pumped into the Brand, I don't think they're comparable, or 1:1 in an economic sense.

Exactly my point. Rich comes and goes ... nobody takes your titles away from you. Why is our de facto way of describing a club based on the last 2-3 years?

How would saying "can't do much when a richer club comes calling for your players" be less effective than saying bigger?

"Richer" communicates the exact same thing while respecting history and avoiding pointless arguments.

It can all change in an instant, Liverpool were the kings at the top table for a long time, then United and now we have a City V Chelsea battle for control.

Two teams who have struggled in my lifetime, used to have a lot of respect for City fans, still do for some but quite a few have done a Michael Carroll and been a whopper.

Maybe not but the fact is that they have a lot more fans than us. Khalekan said the only way they can be considered bigger than us is in terms of money. That's not true.

I'd bloody love a smeggy oil tycoon to own us.

A lot would, not for me thanks.

I know it's every dog for themselves out there, but a little bit of a football club dies when this happens IMO.

I know a lot of City fans who aren't as interested as they used to be, it's only proper bells who can only get wood from their teams being successful.

So they are more slickly marketed in the Far East than we are.

No surprise thwre, Wiz

I don't know if that would count toward the overall point scoring which compares one club's "bigness" against another.

I tend to go for the more tangible examples.

Put Everton and Chelsea in a neutral stadium anywhere in Europe.....including London.....and we will vastly outnumber them.

Just like at Wembley in '09.
