Joe Royle discussion thread

Can't add anything to what everyone has rightly pointed out, a true living legend who we are fortunate to still have around the club, one of my earliest memories of him was watching MOTD in about 68/69 and he scored ghosting in from nowhere and headed the ball just as Gary Sprake thought he was too catch it....Brilliant.

In this day and age of out of touch footballers and the overhyped Sky circus, I find myself being disassociated from the game I love.
And then I think about some of the real heroes that made me have such devotion to this great football club.
If anyone asked me to name the greatest, not just Evertonian, but footballing man and true gent I would pick Joe Royle.
I have had the pleasure of meeting him and he is just so down to earth and makes time for anyone who wants to chat about the game that he was blessed to play at the very top of.

I remember Kendall's mid 80's side with huge pride and fondness, but the way he turned round Mike Walker's, rock bottom, horrific start to the 94-95 season with a rousing derby win, culminating with victory at Wembley over Manchester United was nothing short of the finest Hollywood movie script. *

A colossus of our great club and a real living legend.

*(let's hope both those results happen this week too!)

The 4-1 Thrashing of Spurs in the FA Cup Semi final that year will always be one of my favourite days as an Evertonian and will always make me think of Big Joe with a cheeky smile on his face apologising for ruining the 'dream' final of Spuds v Utd

In the snow

Any excuse for me to post this again !! Bloody froze that day and off school sick the week after... what a great day.

Mate, he retired about 10 seasons ago. I love the fella, but reckon he'd be the first to agree with me that he's not the right man to be managing us.

Until the end of the season mate. Rally the troops for the Derbyshire and FA Cup, would have done me that.

Greatest goal he ever scored I was in that end of wild blues fans that day I did post that goal in classic matches!
