Absolutely.

Prior to his Southampton move

However, this is as positive as I've seen about his time at Southampton - and rather fits the bill for a back-up keeper

Third paragraph seems to be generally the plan for him here, too.

Speaking to a Saints supporting mate the other day he wasn't that shocked that he played well. But with the caveat that it's just as likely that he'll be crap next game.

In other words, a decent back up keeper.

The belief is that Joe Hart is overrated, that's why people are hesitant. He'd cost massive money in terms of a fee and wage, when there are probably better options around for half the price.

I also don't think he's been anywhere near the best 'keeper in the league at any point in his career. I guess that is debatable, but for me I've never had him in my top three 'keepers in any given Premier League season.

As disappointed as Hart must have been to miss out in the Tubey Awards, I hope he can at least take some solace in his two Premier League titles.

I know he has kept the most clean sheets in the league in 4 seasons out of the last 6, but to miss out on the illustrious "Tubeys Top 3" year after year must be crushing for the lad. I'm not sure how you come back from that. Look elsewhere imho.

Don't know whether you have seen this from the Daily Fail - ITS ONNNN!

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart is keen on a move to Everton – and City are also happy to sanction a deal too.

Hart, 29, has been at the Etihad Stadium for ten years now having signed from Shrewsbury Town back in the summer of 2006, and he's racked up almost 350 appearances for the club having become City's undoubted first-choice goalkeeper since the start of the 2010/11 campaign.

Totally agree.

I was watching a football trading video earlier and it pointed to the percentages from 2015/2016 that teams were pegged back after scoring / taking the lead. Southampton were one of the lowest - I think it was around 20%, and needless to say, we were among the worst offenders at something mental like 50%. Koeman has already spent all the money so far on two 'defending-first' style players and a winger who is known for being rapid on the counter, so he's hardly about to then compromise all of this by going into the season proper without a new, clear first choice goalkeeper.

Unless Hart comes in on loan, I can see our biggest outlay of the summer being on a very high-end goalkeeper.

Exactly Ijjy.

Stek has been solid and a drastic improvement on Howard but, FWIW, I think he was mainly brought in as an insurance policy.

He's reliable and gave us some breathing space in not having to rush into getting a keeper, but rather we could wait until any better deals have popped up

Prior to the Spurs game, it would have been a "yes" from me

Now, it's a "cheese on toast"

I mean, I watched the Euro's, and quite frankly he had a shocker

Stekky's played well so far and made some wonder saves at the weekend

Shouldn't he get his chance?

Good post @Mikey_Fitzgerald but didn't every player playing for England have a crap Euro's.

This guys needs a change and he will be back to his best, all players need to move on eventually this is Hart's time, to come to this great club, plus doesn't he have family that are blues or is that just Lewis Holtby.....where is he now?

Again, titles make no odds for a goalkeeper - Victor Valdes won loads at Barcelona and he was always average at best. If you're at a top club, you face less shots on goal.

I do like the "I can't believe people are turning their noses up at such-and-such" posts though

I seem to recall a lot of that going on when we were linked with Eto'o as well. How'd that end up again?

Again, Hart may come here and be excellent, but let's not pretend it's a sure thing

Indeed.

It's not like I think Hart is actively bad; it's just that I don't think he'd be worth the fee and wage outlay. He's no Schmeichel or Southall.

I also think he isn't bad, but worth the money we'd have to pay to get him? I'm not so sure

If we're going to spend a huge wedge on an English goalkeeper, I'd be going for Forster and Butland over Hart if I'm honest
