It is, frankly, tripe.

The genius that is Pep has managed 2 clubs who were rarely got at, in a PL way. Like you say, who does said keeper give the ball to? Fullback or Centre Half. Maybe a midfielder who has popped back.

Maximum length of pass? 10 yards?

Holy Moly. The PL is going to get destroyed by this tactic.
It's ironic really, city intend replacing him with bravo who is 6ft and 33 years of age, but he is a 'sweeper' apparently. City are already weak at centre half (no commanding, physical presence without kompany) and I guarantee bravos lack of physicality (so important in the premier league) will cost them more goals than hart's ability to sweep.

I've not seen any keeper successfully play the ball out of the back consistently in the prem. Even the ones recognised as being good with their feet more often than not just launch it if they're under pressure.
Martinez would love that keeper who could kick the ball successfully out from the back instead of hoofing it. Just imagine how many more goals we would have conceded if Howard was adopting that 'sweeper' position last year.

Someone on TS today was banging on about the BM or Barca keeper had a higher "pass completion ratio" than any Leicester defender last season.

Like, wow. Every one of them would have been under no pressure, against a team with 11 players behind the ball, and about 3 yards.

#sweeperkeeper.

you are on a roll, Roydo.

We need to reclaim the game from the jargon fest it has become ;)

I am quite long on the tooth, but I honestly have never heard of a keeper being played cos he is good with his feet. If he is, then sound, its a bonus. But like you say, a confident defensive unit starts with a keeper who commands, and controls the lads in front of him.

Drop/sell him cos he is crap, not cos he cant make a 6 yard pass to John Stones. Nonsense hipster tripe.

Serious question mate. Do you think Southall (best goalkeeper I've seen in my lifetime) would get a game under pep? I know they say the game is different nowadays, but surely not that different!!!

find it mad that people don't think he'd be easily our best keeper if / when he comes.

find it mad people don't rate him at all to be honest.
It depends on the deal, also if we fill all the deficiencys in our out field players maybe the war chest has burst open?
I will believe it when I see it we are linked to many players, can Charlie Austin play in goallol

As much of a complete tit Guardiola is, it's not like he's selling/droppping Hart and putting David Silva in goal because he's better at passing.

Brava is obviously a decent enough all round keeper anyway, but one who has qualities that Gaurdiola prefers in a keeper, qualities that are important in the way he sets his teams up.

No idea mate. Probably not going by the modern criteria though!

Like you say, the game aint that different, just the 24/7, 365 days a year consumption of it has created a "must talk/write about something" culture.

Sweeper Keeper is the latest rubbish.
