in memoriam - 1965-2024
Should be pretty good listening. Just too young to remember his Celtic team properly, but those who know reckon he was one of, if not, the, best. Remember the Wales/Scotland game when he died, but, must admit, didnt realise quite how highly regarded he was at the time.

I stand free to be corrected here.. but didnt he win the league with players all born withing a few miles of the ground ? If so, that will never happen again.
Moyes gave comment on the 5 live show I believe, havent listened yet, will do for sure.

In 1975 Jock Stein was involved in a very serious car accident - there's a great story about him being in hospital afterwards:

When Jock was in hospital ,he was very ill and suffered terrible injuries after the car crash. He was unable to speak however he wanted to be kept in touch with the games. It goes like this..

His coach arrives at his bedside.

Jock writes on a piece of Paper "what was the score today?"

The coach writes back on the same piece of paper " we won 3-1 boss!"

Jock responds in writing " I'm not deaf you stupid [Poor language removed]"

The team that won the 1967 European Cup final against Inter were all from within a couple of miles of Celtic park(i think). I have a copy of that game and Celtic were amazing. If you ever get a chance to watch it, do. It was a masterclass.

That must have been what I read somewhere then..
Pat Nevin describes his death as the " Scottish JFK moment " - Strong words indeed.. Look forward to catching up on iPlayer.
