I remember McGovern's effort at dealing with the Liverpool Dockers strike. He caved in to Ch4s demands that the scab character played by Ricky Thommo was treated fairly. I know some of the dockers families who worked on developing that script and they had their stomach turned by it.

Stick to casting fellow Scousers as thieves and smackheads, Jimmy lad. The best Uncle Tom license fee money can pay for.

i dont know whats worse, but casting non-scousers like the embarresing robert carlisle in cracker takes some beating. i`d hate it if mcgovern was an evertonian- his writing was so bad that it was funny to take the piss at the expense of the kopites and watch them squirm coz they knew he was a phoney
