2024/25 Jesper Lindstrom

I think the biggest argument for Jesper right now is what he has brought defensively in such a short amount of time. He has been REALLY good at times. It is hard to find players that can bring both sides well which is why I hope he gets it together in the final 3rd. I wouldn't be upset if we bought him, but I could see it being wasteful. It's Moyes's call really.

Took a look at the stats today and they tell an interesting story. Basically he is our second biggest creator after Dwight but with a lot more defensive duties (ie playing rwb when out of possession). He is also our biggest waster after Dom. Not shown below but his chances created per 90 is 1.5 second only to Dwight.

They have to be ruthless in their assessment of him as they should be with all players.

He does have work to do to nail down a move here. It's about tangible impact, he is in a position where he should be contributing goals and assists.

Hope he can have a strong end to the season, for me he will need it.

I think the wing back thing is being a bit overblown. That was definitely a thing in the first couple of games after Moyes came in but much less so since. He obviously does get asked to get back and help out defensively, but that very much did apply to McNeill when he played wide under dyche (there are literally thousands of posts on here bemoaning dyche using the wingers as auxiliary full backs).

Whether we sign him depends on where we want to get to and how quickly we want to try and get there. There’s no issue with getting to the top half of the table with players who work hard. To get into the top 5 or 6 you tend to need your forward thinking players / wide players to contribute a fair few goals and assists. At the moment he doesn’t do that

When the oppo attacks he’s in the right back slot, when we attack he’s trying to get in the good areas a winger likes to get in.

The left side doesn’t have to track back the same because Myko stays at LB, but on the right Jake OB slots to RCB and he goes to RB. This is a factor many overlook in comparing Lindstrom with other players, and why the left side creates more.

He also has the most shots on target and chances created for a player without a goal or an assist - it’ll come, Moyes clearly likes him… since he’s been playing regularly we’ve become the form team in the league. He’s obviously not the predominant factor (Beto’s form is imo) but he is a contributor.
Spot on. I was at the game yesterday and what you are saying was clear.

Lindstrom is doing ok in what’s a really demanding role physically. His attitude and application are both excellent. But you can’t help but feel that someone with more stamina and pace is required

Obviously we have to keep in mind we’ve had a change mid season with the managers but I think it’s safe to say Lindstrom has been asked to focus on defending by both Moyes and Dyche on the right side. We just don’t have a capable a RB to depend upon. The left side hasn’t been asked to take on as many defensive duties.

Check out these heat maps, a season comparison with Dwight and then the last two games with Harrison. Dwight who mostly played under Dyche is much further up on the pitch while Lindstrom who has mostly played under Moyes is further down. Lindstrom is spending a whole lot more time near our box than the left wingers. A lot is being asked of him, it’s lung busting work for anyone.

It doesn’t work as a comparison though, because McNeil was playing number 10 a lot and so not given the same defensive responsibility. Thats why I specified ‘when playing wide’. The Harrison comparison suggests there’s not a huge difference in what they’re being asked to do, more a difference in how often the ball goes down one side which is a different thing.
