Shouldn’t be judged until he’s well settled. He’ll still be living out of a suitcase, getting used to bad English food and life in a different country.

No idea why anyone would have a problem with his performance today. Home debut and dealt with plenty of agro from the opposition. He was in the right place almost all of the time and showed some composure when it mattered. He starts on friday for me, offered far more than Schneiderlain and has loads more pace and height.

He breaks up play and helps with the quick transition into attack that's why he was signed not to run a midfield..

As someone who was actually at the game and not a Liverpool fan masquerading as that:

He played well for the most part but still wants a little too much time on the ball. Easily shrugs players off and has an eye for a pass. Once he gets fit and used to the press he could be a very good player for us

He made the most successful passes (38) on our team. 21 of those were in Watford's half - again the most successful amount in the side. His passing accuracy was down at 65% but he attempted the most forward passes. Made 3 tackles (second behind Bernard with 4), 4 clearances, 1 interceptions and gained possession on 4 occasions.

Covered 9.77k, clocked our highest speed at 35.41 km/h.

Of all his stats, I’m most interested in successful tackle, interception and repossession. This is his bread and butter and the most important part of the game he need to improve. If he can manage 75% of what Gana did, he will be immense for us because his attacking talent will offset his defensive deficiency.

Who said that? Who said his bread and butter was tackling, repossession and intercepting??

Stats mean nothing lid. Did you watch it? He looked clumsy at times. Maybe with more confidence we'll see a bit of finesse but the jury's still out.

Yes, I watched it. Yes, stats do mean a lot when used right.

Of course the jury's out, it's a game and a half.

But the post I was responding to said his passing was off. I pointed out he made more successful passes, and more forward passes, than any of our players.

Is he a defensive midfielder?? I thought he was a centre midfielder.

You can’t have 2 midfielder doing the same thing and totally neglect the responsibility of tackling, interception and repossession.

Gomes is not that sort of player and never will be, our hope is for Gbamin to fill in this responsibility regardless of how you want to define his position.
