To be fair he'd played on 11 July and then played half a game for us on 10 August and a full one on 17 August. He should hardly have needed a massive pre-season, there was only a month between games, and plenty of other players from the AFCON played again in the same timeframe.

Brands didn't fail to do due diligence and sign a crock, and Silva wasn't out of order expecting a professional athlete to be fit enough to do what they get paid for. The bloke just got injured, it happens. Just because we're struggling doesn't mean we have to turn everything into a massive drama that somebody needs to get sacked for.

How can you argue not having a pre-season is okay? The PL is a different beast to anything else he’ll have played.

Well it's not ideal, but what can you do? There's an international tournament virtually every year now, if you sign international players for big fees you can't wrap them in cotton wool for 3 months while they catch up. Imagine if we'd signed him for £25m and he'd been sat in the stands while Delph and Gomes were injured and Schneiderlin was suspended, all because he'd 'only' trained for 2 weeks after 3 weeks off. You reckon everyone would have been ok with that yeah? No chance.

What we did was perfectly normal, all teams do it. It's possible that it backfired on us, it's possible that it's a completely unrelated coincidence. Either way, blaming it on poor recruitment or management is just having a go for having a go's sake in my opinion.

Davies was on the bench for the Palace game so could have swapped with Gomes at half time & you can’t foresee a sending off. If he wasn’t up to speed it’s just reckless management.

You can’t see a foresee a sending off but that doesn’t change the fact that it happened does it?! A bizarre line of argument that one.

Erm not really?

We start the match with 2 centre mids (Gomes & Schneiderlin) with 2 other centre mids on the bench (Gbamin & Davies)

Why at half time is an undercooked Gbamin chosen over Davies to come on? It’s reckless if he wasn’t up to speed. After Schneiderlin was sent off on like 80 mins Davies is brought on.

And Gomes had already gone off injured then. He sacrificed Sigurdsson's position to keep 2 in centre midfield. Gbamin as the DM and Davies to move the team forward.

Yes? I don’t know if you’re understanding where I’m coming from here.

Yes, you're right.

He went to the bizarre two defensive midfielders option that has served us so well this season when Gomes went off. Then hooked Gilfi for Davies to keep two in the middle when Schneiderlin got sent off.

Exactly. It’s like if we played 4-4-2 and a striker had to go off. Do you bring on the fresh PL ready one or the newbie that missed our pre-season.
