Saw this on ESPN just now quoting the Daily Star - I have no idea how credible they are. I like DeMerit. Good pickup as a free if we can get him. He's solid.

"Premier League trio West Ham, Stoke and Everton are all interested in signing free agent U.S. defender Jay DeMerit, according to the U.K.'s Daily Star.
DeMerit, who left English second tier club Watford last spring after six seasons, played in the Prem during the Hornets' top-flight stint in 2006-07. The Green Bay, Wisc. product was linked to Bundesliga club Wolfsburg earlier this month, but staying in England seems like a better fit.

Of the three EPL suitors, winless West Ham needs the most help. Signing with the Hammers would also allow DeMerit to remain in London. However, if given the choice, the prospect of playing in front of U.S. keeper Tim Howard at Everton might be too attractive an option to pass up".

maybe on a free!

but im loving the "winless West Ham" bit cuz we have won loads of games!

Seen him play a few times...impresive and solid at championship level. Would he make it a prem level? Maybe. I would think a blackpool or West Ham would be more keen to get him than us....especially since we just loaned out another CB :/

I love Jay DeMerit. He's a great story and he played in the same conference as I did in high school. That being said, I"m not sure he's good enough to play for a team with European aspirations. He's a nice CB for a Championship side or a Premiership team at the bottom of the table. West Ham would be a better fit.

i like him. cant see him starting for us, but i would still like him

be willing to give him a shot, especially if it means potentially replacing distin

I am a big DeMerit fan as well, but I am not so sure Everton would be the best spot for him. I believe he can play in the Prem. Did a good job for Watford the year they were up. Then again DeMerit's career has been about blowing expectations out of the water so you never know.

He was my MoTM against Spain in the Confed cup.. Very inconsistent though.. He is an all- American boy though.. hard not to like him

He's a hell of a CB for 89:50. For the other 10sec he catches Yoboitis. Couldn't get much PT here but would be a good pickup for West Ham.

I like him. he'd be a quality pickup for us on a free as he is a class CB, but he would simply be a squad player and cover for us. He would not push for a starting spot (unless someone's form drops). A couple years back when he was a CB in the prem with Watford I remember him getting outclassed multiple times. He simply didn't seem good enough.

However, as I watched him recently for the USA team, he had improved his game dramatically since then. He had some real toughness, a few games where he didn't put a foot wrong (against Spain's offense, that is impressive). He could get some real playing time at westham, but he would be great cover for us. On a free, not big wages, he'd be a good bit of business for us.

Honestly?

No freaking chance.

If we're gonna do that, just bring Yobo back. He's the better option.

Close the thread.
