2024/25 Jarrad Branthwaite

Disagree. It’s not the way I’d run a club. If the player decides to downtools they get dropped. Yes it will affect the team temporarily, but if they’re not in the team, or play poorly, they’re only committing their own career suicide. No club would want them then. As a club you just have to hold your nerve, and as I say there are examples of other clubs of doing this, but we just seem to fold as a club.

Going to have to disagree back. I think an unsettled Branthwaite that clubs know about would attract a bidding war. Interested clubs wouldn't suddenly be put off as he's a very desirable asset being a young left-footed English player in his position. Most of the top teams these days want a CB partnership that compliment each other.

Yes I understand the attraction of a LCB, and don’t get me wrong, if we got a world record fee for him (bidding war or not) and we could genuinely improve the team (recent history tells us this is unlikely) then if he wanted to go, I wouldn’t stand in his way.

If however the mooted transfer fee was less than what we value him at, then he wouldn’t go - simple as that for me. We have a contract with him and nothing breaks that regardless of player behaviour unless he leaves on our terms. If there was a year left on the contract I would feel differently, but there isn’t.

Not really. If he does go it should be for a world record fee for a defender. I wouldn’t be on settling for any fee less than that. JB has two years left on the contract plus it’s reported we have the option of a third year extension. What’s he going to do. Down tools? He doesn’t strike me as the type of guy to do that plus it’s doubtful in a world cup year.
No. He holds all the cards. We’re in a weak position - simply because we’ve nothing concrete to offer him and yes, he could just refuse to play. In that scenario we’d look like the bad guys holding him back. No amount of big talk is gonna change that. But we’d see sense before any performative stuff and realise the money is (currently) more valuable to us. I wouldn’t want him at the club if he’s just pissed off and wanting away. That helps nobody. As has been said, the real disaster wouldn’t be him going, but failing to use the proceeds well.

Branthwaite is not the be all and end all, and our approach to him now sets no precedent. In a few years time, when the next super kid comes through our ranks (and he will) THAT’S the test. Will HE spur the biggest offers in favour of a club demonstrably on the up?

Disagree.

Everton need to set their stall out early on this one. The bidding STARTS at 80million. Otherwise, don’t even bother getting in contact.

We’ll sell him for somewhere around £60-70m which is fine.
I agree, no one will pay anywhere close to what we value him at.
Even if clubs rate him he’s been a CH fighting relegation and can’t get in the England squad, that’s what they will use to knock down the price.

It will come down to how desperate we are to sell, and how much he wants to leave.
Another season with Moyes and fighting for top 10 would increase his value for us and may be enough for him to give us another year.

Right, I feel incredibly strongly about this one so gonna write a few thoughts here…

Jarrad is one of the best young centre backs in world football and is obviously highly coveted because of that. However, Everton are in a very strong position with the player having 2 years + a club option of an extra year remaining on his contract.

Everton should be throwing the kitchen sink at the lad, offering him the best wage we possibly can and letting him know just how important he is to us. Talk of a sale feels much more aligned with the last few years than this summer of hope and optimism going into our new stadium.

For all the good work The Friedkin Group have done since coming in, selling Branthwaite in their first summer would be a massive misstep and in my eyes would somewhat undermine all the good they’ve done. Imho it would make me think they’re not willing to dip their hands in their pocket to help with recruitment and would have us solely relying on selling to buy.

Anyway, that’s just my thoughts on the matter. Just hoping upon hope that we’ll see Jarrad signing a new 5 year deal in a matter of weeks ✍️

What's worrying is there is next to nothing coming from the club to quell the rumours.

There has been next to nothing about a new contract for him.
