2024/25 Jarrad Branthwaite

He’s not for sale. We as a club need to send a sign or i should say TFG do that us selling our best players happened under previous regimes…but not under their watch

One of the first big acts under the Moshiri regime was selling Lukaku and worse further, not replacing him. Terrible message to send out.

Oh, we replaced him alright, with a Blue Bill Special:

Defo it set the tone then. 100 million we got and Rooney in exchange and we wasted the money.

Also Moyes will know how important Brainthwaite is

If he wants to go, he’s gone. And in that event, we’d probably have to settle on the fee, too. We may be financially secure and have no need to sell, but if staying with us for another year isn’t as attractive to him as the alternative, we’re stuck.
Not really. If he does go it should be for a world record fee for a defender. I wouldn’t be on settling for any fee less than that. JB has two years left on the contract plus it’s reported we have the option of a third year extension. What’s he going to do. Down tools? He doesn’t strike me as the type of guy to do that plus it’s doubtful in a world cup year.

To be fair, we never saw it coming with Lescott did we?

No but contractually what can a player do? Us selling him was a symptom of a cash strapped club under BK. We need to stand our ground and then players will eventually come round. We’ve seen it time and again with other clubs.

They can play like Lescott did v Arsenal? In turn, we'd be put into a position where we're forced to act as a club. Giving them the 'reserves' treatment like you can on simulation games wouldn't suffice in the end. Player power is a very real thing, too, players have more leverage than ever.

We should never forget how United and Chelsea shafted us under Silva. We were ready to pay big money for Zouma. Chelsea played us all window and then turned us down only to send him to a team in West Ham later for less. United turned down massive bids from us for Rojo and Smalling who weren’t anywhere near their first choice and lost both of them for pittance shortly afterwards. They all did this just to mess with Everton and disrupt Silva (which not getting a CB absolutely did).

To quote Alex Ferguson I wouldn’t sell them a virus. They’re both scum. 100 million plus if either of them come knocking.

Disagree. It’s not the way I’d run a club. If the player decides to downtools they get dropped. Yes it will affect the team temporarily, but if they’re not in the team, or play poorly, they’re only committing their own career suicide. No club would want them then. As a club you just have to hold your nerve, and as I say there are examples of other clubs of doing this, but we just seem to fold as a club.
