I don't think not making the England squad is a massive surprise to be honest. I don't think he's consistently found the same level as he did last year, and seeing as he couldn't cement himself in the squad then it's not a shock to see that he can't now either.

I think it is when you see Quansah makes the squad, who has barely kicked a ball for the RS all season. What has he done to justify a place over someone like Jarrad who has played consistently since returning from injury.

That's a different point though. I'm not saying I agree with decision or the selection overall, just that I don't think it's a huge surprise because he hasn't been outstanding this year in the way that he was last year. I do think we overrate him slightly myself; he's excellent don't get me wrong, but I don't think he's generally regarded as being levels above some of his contemporaries the way that some people suggest he is.

I know it's not an Everton matter per se, but the bar is incredibly low with that squad selection. Some of the omissions are criminal.

Bizarre squad. James, Henderson, Walker, Rashford, Burn, Quansah, 4 keepers, no Gibbs-White, Wharton, Branthwaite, even Gallagher (had a decent game vs Real the other night). Looks like Tuchel is the German Southgate!

He has no interest in building a squad for the next 8 years. Win the next WC at the cost of everything afterwards - that’s his mission, and if it goes wrong, the country will rue another failure by a squad containing Henderson, Walker, Rashford etc. and go back to the drawing board, 2 years too late.

The omissions are what they are. But some of the inclusions would be ripped to bits if it was Southgate.
