January Transfer Window 2026

Joe Thomas in the echo

Everton are tracking several right backs, though Strasbourg and Ivory Coast defender Guela Doue - linked to the club elsewhere - is not believed to be among them. Moyes is understood to deem pace as a key attribute for the position, with Premier League experience preferential where possible. Everton could strengthen elsewhere if the right opportunities emerge, with central midfield another area under assessment.

Reported because of PSI not that much money in January - Blackburn right back under the radar & a possible swap lian deal with Beto & a Roma striker ? All rumours of course?

These the same reports that said we wernt going to spend in the summer because of psr?

Anyone talking about psr doesnt have a clue what there talking about imo.

The PL doesn't have a clue whats its on about with psr so how can anyone else?

We got deducted twice our books were pure fantasy with the Mosh & BK PSR it is complex, but the new owners have really bailed us out to credibility what is my concern is do they want us in A euro competition which if it's the same as Roma they lose out big time ?

We were linked with Tchatchoua who went to wolves and absolute speed merchant whether we tried for him again or wolves would sell

The problem is how much does the "finished article" cost? £100m? We are not shopping in those places and even if we were, those players want to be in the champions league and if they are not there already they are prepared to wait.

Adding someone like Pepi for £30m can work 3 ways, he can either become a player proven in the premier league and then is instantly worth twice what we paid for him, so we can sell him, make a profit and reinvest, Or keep him and he gets us to europe.

The third way is it doesnt really work out and we sell him back to PSV in 18 months for £15m having written off £15m
For what its worth, as an american, I dont think Pepi is all that. Ive watched him since his FC Dallas days and just have doubts. He is an interesting player, but to simplify over the years Ive worried his athleticism and strength just arent up to par. It was early goings in his European journey but I also struggle to get over how bad he was in Germany. And a move from Eredivisie leaves me lukewarm.

Personally I think the move at striker at the moment is to look at underperforming wonderkids at the position. I look at the Delap situation, Hojlund's move to Napoli, or frankly Santiago Gimenez stagnant at AC (a player BTW that way outperformed Pepi in Holland) and think the value may be in prospects that were extremely touted, but are now far less sexy in a position where that effects a lot of the price. The market in a lot of these cases I think massively overcorrects, or at least fines the actual value from a massively inflated one. I just think poach from larger clubs whose massive noise or lack of patience have failed the player.

Its also not lost on me that a lot of these strikers come from minimal possession sides into ball dominant ones. How good is Delap is still an open question but him struggling in a side with more build up in the final third is not implausible. Hojlund excelled on the break at Atalanta and is re-engaged on a team that favors the counter.

This is not binary, but broadly personally I think I would be more interested in 30 million for a 22 year old that had one underperforming move from a transfer fee that was double that a year or two ago, than pay the same amount for a striker that hasn't made any such move or ever had that evaluation to begin with.
