January Transfer Window 2026

I have absolutely no idea why I think Barry could turn out to be a goal machine when he gets going. Often hear about the difference in the premier league for young strikers. Takes time, the comparison I'm hoping for is Mateta, he couldn't hit a barn door in his first season but has turned into a right handful. Think a summer in the gym will do Barry wonders.

Maybe clutching.

But we need goals from strikers

I think this as well. He’s an extremely good Dubravka save from another goal from one half chance v Burnley and that was on his weaker foot.

The chance v Palace, the miss v Sunderland, offside v Fulham, another one disallowed for handball.

He could be sat here on 6 goals if he’d just duffed a few of the tap ins and had a couple of lenient VAR calls.

This is not a player who doesn’t look like ever scoring. We should keep starting him because I think Beto’s race is run at the club and Barry has the tools to score at this level.

Your correct about the physicality and going to war with the opposition, but that can be coached/acclimatised by playing more and realising how little time you get.

My main worry with Barry has been he hadn't shown anything like I'd expect a striker to - a turn of pace, beat a man, get a shot away etc. On Saturday he done all 3 and I've got to say I was pleasantly surprised and relieved to see it. That's given me a bit of a hope.

I can't believe how poor Beto has been, I think back to his away performance against Palace where he used himself as a battering ram, made a nuisance of himself, brought others into play, scored a goal and nearly had another. Compare that to this season where he's been static, bullied off the ball far too easily, has barely looked a goal threat and when the chances have come (Villa at home, Palace at home) has missed glaringly easy chances. It looks to me like his race is run at Everton and it's time for him to move on. If he finishes with 1 league goal, is that the worst return of an Everton number 9 since numbers were introduced i wonder?

Either way, they've both been a huge disappointment but I'm hopeful that little snippet from Barry on Saturday, that he follows that up with a goal tomorrow. He should have a bit of confidence as he scored against them 3 weeks ago so he knows what to expect.
I found myself nodding along with this post.

I think with Barry, there's been some stuff there that you could say were genuine attributes but I couldn't really see where his goal threat was ever going to come from.

The progress is slow, but there's definitely some progress on the goal threat front. The goal against Forest was a lovely finish and then on Saturday the bit where he went past the defender and hit a low left foot finish which the keeper did really well to save was another moment where I thought we were starting to see a growing goal threat.

It's not going to be an overnight thing - would expect that even if he does come good we are talking months and months before he'd be showing everything you'd want.

With Beto though, I don't think there's anything left to be hopeful about. We do need another striker and we need to find a buyer for Beto at the earliest opportunity

Having said the above...

I'd be going after Joao Gomes at Wolves. Quality midfielder box-to-box and can also play as 6 or attacking midfield.

KDH - Gomes - Garner

Iroegbunam & Armstrong bench.

Things start to look more interesting.
100% agree - honestly think if we could get some one of Gomes calibre linked with KDH & Garner, we would have the makings of a top tier midfield.

We need to shift Beto, Dwight & Patterson on. Ideally need a winger - someone with pace. Think Tyler will prove to be a 10 in time. Again he’s young take our time with him and hope he hits the heights you predict..

Desperately must sign full backs, loans with options would be more than fine. If there’s a striker out there too, it’s a must.

Think Barry has something to work with but it’s too much to ask of him, he’s still in the raw/development stage for me.

Questions of whether he will ever be good enough.

Santiago Castro at Bologna looks a cracking player.

Yeah i mentioned him ages ago and weve been linked under Thelwell.

Looks good but not got enough goals.

Seen a link to LW, Ruben Vargas from Sevilla, could that mean McNeil is all but gone? £13m quoted as the price, wolves had a deal agreed in the summer with Sevilla but the player decided not to go.

Looks decent, actually looks fast, which would be a different option from what we have currently. Also has played RW and AM

Wheres the link from? Probably from when were watching Juanlu Sanchez for them weve seen him.

27 and 50+ caps for Switzerland.

13m? If accurate then it’s a no brainer.

There is value out there but our transfer committee is woeful.

I think if we are to 'complete' the midfield and forward positions...

I was saying similar to @Pabbers

CF: Bowen
LW: Grealish
RW: Ndiaye
CM: KDH
CM: Gomes
CM: Garner

Iroegbunam, Armstrong, Dibling, Monga, Barry

That looks pretty good to me.

Gomes January permanent
Monga January (loan back to Leicester)
Bowen summer permanent

Has the capacity to sit or play expansive using either 10 or 6 and fluid with both short and long term covered.
