January Transfer Window 2026

Ake is a good player but definitely not a full back, he can get away with at City because they don’t play him as a proper full back, hence why O’Reilly is starting ahead of him, and when they do they just have the 5/6 ahead of him all taking the ball to do the attacking side.

Hi mate, I remember you posted this and I had no idea who O'reilly was, googled him and it seems he did the business tonight.

I feel so out the mix with current footballers outside of Everton

….i know we’ve been linked;

Wouldn’t say a right back is of dire importance but would be nice if it is financially feasible, I’d rather we not strain ourselves with PSR though as I think the squad is good enough to push for a top 10 finish

Well done Roma don’t want that carthorse anywhere near us
Weirdly the opposite of a carthorse. Like the perfect link player but not a goalscorer. I think in certain niche systems he'd be absolutely indispensible. Don't know enough about tactics to say which though, but I'd back Gasperini to know if he could make good use of him!

I think "indispensable" is putting it a bit highly mate.
But, yes he's a 10 rather than a 9 .

Be surprised how much some managers can rely on incredibly weird players who do incredibly specific things to make their gameplan work. About stylistic fit more than quality sometimes

….exactly why I’ve never agree with the tag that a certain player is a ‘bottom half PL player’ or a ‘Championship player’, when they could be exactly what a top team wants. So much about blend and balance.

Roger Hunt won a World Cup winners medal and Ramsey left the brilliant Jimmy Greaves out, Nobby Stiles played in that great side when there was much more fashionable footballers available.

Yep. Difficulty comes though when the manager leaves for whatever reason and then you're saddled with a player who doesn't fit the new manager AND is very hard to sell.

Reason number 4328790 why you need a long-term plan and decided playing style that you recruit managers to fit, rather than the other way round...

They played for Utd and Liverpool, Liverpool had won the league In 66, utd would win in 67 and the European cup
The year later, you’re taking like they are bang average players.

There’s not many top teams interested in McNeil or a doucoure, at their ages and 5/6yrs fighting relegation. Yes they
May take a punt on a kid from the championship or a bottom prem
Team. But plucking a 28 yr old from a championship club. Is very rare for a team at the top of the prem to do
