January Transfer Window 2026

Like he played Barkley, he even left our best ever youngster, Rooney on the bench. You believe what you want
I guess the alternative question is which youngsters has he failed to play who went on to play at the highest level?

Mustafi is the only one I can think of but we had Jags and ?Distin/Lescott at the time.

Barkley was sadly ruined after his leg break. Had the physical attributes yes but never consistent enough for us.

Barkley got 23 goals and assist combined in 46 games in one season, also in his last full season under Koeman he got 15. In 30 league games. Doucoure gets hailed a hero by some for scoring a few goals, same as McNeil
Barkley was a very talented footballer, that Moyes ignored. Even at 32 he’s getting game time for a team fighting for champions league football

It is odd indeed Roma seems to have 1st choice. Zirkzee is not the free scoring striker being a massive upgrade on Ferguson
Is it first choice though, or is it that those players have more of a chance in Serie A.

If they can't cut it over here, why bring them to us over a league they realistically should do better in..

And yet he brought through Declan Rice and helped make him one of the best midfielders in the world. Barkley was given game time under Moyes and clearly wasn’t ready. Maybe if Moyes had stayed he might have had a career more like Rice. He certainly had more talent.

Correct but maybe, just maybe, it was because his first manager didn’t wear him out. Maybe he wasn’t ready to play every week, having just had a double leg fracture. Maybe he was immature.
Maybe none of this is right and Moyes was merely protecting the club and not willing to risk having a teenager come in and make key errors.
Or, maybe you are right and Moyes should have played him every week.
Ross Barkley had a lot of positive attributes but he was also very frustrating for us.

Regardless, we are slightly clutching at straws suggesting Moyes doesn’t play kids and the examples are Rooney and Barkley!

I'm inclined to agree with this really. Zirkzee has shown that he can't cut it in the prem, but showed quality in Serie A which seems to suit him better.

And Evan Ferguson seems to have some kind of issue off the pitch going on. He's clearly miles down the pecking order at Brighton while an ancient Welbeck leads the line for them, failed at West Ham and now looks to have failed very quickly in Italy with Gasparini making some quite pointed comments about attitude/application.
